Conversations with Kinsie Pulley

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kinsie Pulley.

Hi Kinsie, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
I started doing balloons for family and friends, and it always brought me a lot of joy. I’ve always had the desire to start my own business, so when I moved to KC after getting married, I asked my sister-in-law if she wanted to help me do it, and we decided to go for it!

I asked a local boutique if I could do a free balloon display for them to get our name out there, and that’s how it all began. A lot of our jobs are for bridal showers, birthdays, and other special events. It has been a blast getting to know local business owners and amazing people in Kansas City.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Some of the struggles we faced in the beginning, were correctly bidding out a job and valuing our work and time.

We’ve had some jobs where we underestimated the pricing, and we quickly felt defeated, or like we weren’t giving ourselves the respect we deserve. It’s been so freeing to determine what our time and skills are worth and never waver from that.

People have respect for small businesses, and they understand the time and effort it takes to make something great.

Running your own business doesn’t come with a manual, you just have to throw yourself in there, make some mistakes, have grace for yourself, and move forward with confidence.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
We own a balloon business, specializing in garlands and unique displays. Something I’m most proud of, is the jobs where a client asks us to do something we’ve never attempted before, and we go all in to make it happen for them.

We’ve constructed our own 20ft arch, spending hours in a local hardware store mapping out the perfect display for their event. Something that sets us apart, and something we make a priority, is having great communication with our clients, answering their inquiries within hours, and making sure they have all their needs met. We love to see clients’ visions come to life, and we will go above and beyond to make them happen.

What were you like growing up?
Growing up I played sports and loved spending time with my family. I’ve always been creative, and if I had the choice to follow the directions or create my own design, I would create my own. I love art, fashion, and all things fun and colorful, and I love doing things a little bit differently from what’s trending.

On the business side, I would say my personality is more of a perfectionist, I always want to make sure things are in their place and done the correct way. This has come in handy, helping keep things in order, and staying on schedule for our events.
