Today we’d like to introduce you to Kimberley McDaniels.
Hi Kimberley, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Like many people, my career has taken a few unexpected turns. Long before social media existed, I worked in legal, retail management, telecommunications, mortgage processing, and marketing. Each role taught me something different about communication, organization, and helping businesses connect with people.
In 2000, I made the leap into becoming a full-time virtual assistant, back when most people had never even heard the term. Over the years, technology changed dramatically, and I found myself changing with it—moving from administrative support into content creation, social media strategy, and content repurposing. I discovered that I loved taking one idea and transforming it into multiple pieces of content that helped business owners stay visible without feeling overwhelmed.
My journey hasn’t been without challenges. In 2013, I lost my home, nearly all of my clients, and had to rebuild both my business and my life from the ground up. It was one of the hardest seasons I’ve ever experienced, but it also taught me resilience, resourcefulness, and the value of creating systems that can weather difficult times.
Today, more than 26 years after starting my business, I work with small businesses, therapists, coaches, hospitality businesses, and service professionals, helping them tell their stories through strategic social media and content marketing. I love combining creativity with organization, finding ways to make marketing feel less overwhelming and more authentic. Every client has a story worth telling, and helping uncover and share those stories is still my favorite part of what I do.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road, and honestly, I’m grateful for that because the challenges shaped both my business and who I am.
One of the biggest obstacles came in 2013 when I lost my home through foreclosure, lost nearly all of my clients, and suddenly found myself rebuilding my life from the ground up. It was one of those moments where you either decide to give up or figure out a new way forward.
I chose to rebuild.
That experience changed how I look at business. It taught me not to take success for granted, to stay adaptable, and to keep learning. Over the years, I’ve watched technology completely transform the marketing world from websites and email marketing to social media, AI, and content repurposing. Every major shift meant learning something new and finding ways to help my clients navigate those changes with confidence.
Running a solo business also means wearing every hat, marketer, designer, strategist, bookkeeper, customer service, and tech support all before lunch some days. It isn’t always glamorous, but I genuinely enjoy solving problems and building systems that make life easier for my clients.
Looking back, I wouldn’t erase those difficult years. They taught me resilience, empathy, and the importance of meeting people where they are. Many of my clients are small business owners carrying the weight of everything on their shoulders, and because I’ve been there myself, I understand both the challenges they face and the hope that comes from finding a way through.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
Today, I help businesses tell their stories through strategic content, social media management, and content repurposing. I work with a variety of clients—from therapists and coaches to hospitality businesses and local service providers, but they all have one thing in common: they’re experts at what they do, yet they don’t have the time or energy to consistently market themselves.
My specialty is taking one piece of content and transforming it into many. A single idea can become a blog article, social media posts, reels, carousels, newsletters, LinkedIn content, and more. I love helping clients get the maximum value from the work they’ve already done while creating systems that make marketing feel manageable instead of overwhelming.
What I’m probably best known for is blending creativity with organization. I’m just as comfortable designing a beautiful carousel as I am building a workflow that saves a client hours every week. I enjoy finding the balance between strategy and creativity, making sure every piece of content has a purpose.
What I’m most proud of isn’t a particular project it’s the relationships I’ve built. Many of my clients have trusted me for years, allowing me to become an extension of their businesses. That kind of trust is something I never take for granted.
I also believe my longevity sets me apart. After more than 26 years in business, I’ve adapted through countless changes in technology, marketing, and social media. Instead of chasing every new trend, I focus on what actually helps my clients reach the people they want to serve. Whether it’s embracing AI as a creative partner, developing efficient content systems, or finding fresh ways to tell authentic stories, my goal has always been the same: help businesses communicate clearly, consistently, and in a way that feels true to who they are.
Can you share something surprising about yourself?
People are often surprised to learn that while I work in a highly creative field, I’m really a systems person at heart. I genuinely enjoy building workflows, finding efficiencies, and figuring out how to turn one piece of content into twenty. There’s something incredibly satisfying about making complicated things feel simple.
I’m also a lifelong mystery and science fiction fan. Give me a detective series, a clever psychological thriller, or a story about alternate realities, and I’m happy. I think that’s part of why I enjoy content strategy so much as I love looking for clues, spotting patterns, and figuring out how all the pieces fit together.
Another fun fact is that I started working as a virtual assistant more than 26 years ago, long before it became a well-known profession. Back then I spent a lot of time explaining what a virtual assistant actually was! Watching technology evolve from dial-up internet to AI-powered tools has been an incredible journey, and I still get excited about learning what’s next.
And despite spending plenty of time with clients in coffee shops and bed-and-breakfasts…I’m a tea drinker.
