Today we’d like to introduce you to Katie Patterson.
Hi Katie, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
From a little girl, I’ve always had a passion to do hair. Looking back through the years it’s always been the one thing that’s been a constant for me. After graduating high school, I took a break to figure out what I was truly wanting to do, starting a career is pretty scary, right?
So after about a year, I finally decided to follow where my heart has always led me- hair. The best thing I have ever done was invest in myself and attend Paul Mitchell the school in overland park. After graduating, I took a leap of faith and started booth renting right out of the gate at amplify salon in Belton, MO.
After 7 amazing years of building and growing, I decided to spread my wings and move to haven salon suites in Leawood, KS in March of 2021. I am now a suite renter and have my own little haven inside one of the city’s most sought-after salon suites.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The path I have paved hasn’t always been an easy one, growing pains have probably hit the hardest, moving locations has been one of the hardest yet best things I have done for my career.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I specialize in living in blondes and color as well as extensions. Those services tend to be what keep me booked and busy most salon days. I also specialize in special occasion updos as well as weddings.
I have done hair for the 2019 Grammy Awards in California for Daniel Nicole Band based out of Kansas City, I am always striving to be the best and constantly brushing. up on education and knowledge whenever I get the chance.
Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
if I could give any advice to anyone starting, it would be to not give up, if you want it, tell yourself over and over its coming, it sounds cliche but the world is your oyster.
You hold the power to accomplish anything you want to do, I have always kept myself a notebook to document my goals, accomplishments, and to-dos which have always helped me along the way.
