Today we’d like to introduce you to Jordan Dillon.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I was playing drums in bands in my early twenties. I started refinishing kits and got hooked on working with my hands. That led me into carpentry and eventually furniture making. I absorbed as much knowledge as I could and now I make furniture pieces with the time and care as the craftspeople of the past
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
When striving to make things at a high level of quality it requires a certain mindset. Fast solutions and corner cutting will show itself in the finished product. I had to learn to slow down and be intentional in order to get the result I wanted. I often say patience is the most important tool.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I make fine furniture out of solid wood and traditional joinery techniques to last lifetimes. I take design inspiration from Japanese and Nordic furniture as well as architecture of all kinds. I like to play with how structural elements interact with each other. I take pride in not trying to be part of the “industry” and want to make something that is special to someone and not just a product.
Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
I had no training or instruction and am completely self taught through the internet and trail and error.
