Conversations with Jacob Edmonds

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jacob Edmonds.

Hi Jacob, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I’ve loved music for as long as I can remember. Growing up just outside of Kansas City, music was always around me, shaping my taste and fueling my curiosity. I wasn’t just listening to songs—I was studying them. I’d replay sections over and over, trying to understand why they hit so hard and how certain sounds created emotion. That curiosity turned into an obsession, and eventually, into purpose.

As I got older, I knew I wanted to take it seriously. I went on to attend Full Sail University, where I dove deep into the technical and creative sides of music production. That experience sharpened my ear, strengthened my discipline, and gave me the foundation to understand recording, arrangement, mixing, and mastering at a professional level.

Through school and hands-on projects, I developed my sound and my process—working with artists, refining details, and learning how to bring clarity, punch, and cohesion to every record. Over time, I realized this wasn’t just something I loved—it was what I was built to do. That’s when I started my studio, New Planet Audio—a space where artistry and precision meet, and where independent artists and creators can trust that their vision will be elevated and delivered at an industry-ready level. Now, I get to combine where I come from, what I’ve learned, and the passion I’ve always had to help artists release music that sounds as powerful as it feels.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The journey wasn’t easy. There were seasons of self-doubt, financial pressure, long nights balancing projects, and moments where progress felt slow. I had to learn patience, build confidence in my ear, and push through the fear of putting my work out into the world. Every setback forced me to grow—not just as an engineer, but as a business owner and leader.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m a mixing and mastering engineer and the founder of New Planet Audio. I specialize in helping independent artists turn raw recordings into clear, punchy, industry-ready records with strong sonic direction. I’m known for balancing technical precision with emotion—making sure a song not only sounds polished, but feels powerful.
What I’m most proud of is building a studio rooted in intention and trust. Artists come to me not just for a service, but for clarity and guidance throughout the process. What sets me apart is my focus on detail, communication, and analog-style depth and punch—I don’t just process tracks, I elevate vision.

What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
I see the music production industry becoming even more accessible and artist-driven over the next 5–10 years. Technology is lowering barriers, with powerful tools available to anyone with a laptop, and that’s empowering artists to take creative control earlier in their process. At the same time, I think there’ll be a stronger demand for high-quality mixing and mastering as listeners continue to expect professional sound across all genres and platforms.
