Today we’d like to introduce you to Jacob Duncan.
Jacob, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
J.D. & The Chasers formed in 2008 as a blues/roots trio, playing locally at small events and bar venues. As their sound evolved, so too did the line up. In addition to core members Jacob Duncan (vocals, guitar) Rob Mawby (bass) and his wife Marie Mawby (vocals), Jason Martinez joined the group in 2022, bringing his Latin-inspired high energy percussion skills to the drums. Larry Stronger was recruited on keyboards in 2024, adding his years of experience as a multi-instrumentalist and songwriter in Nashville. A high energy band with diverse influences, together they have forged a dynamic and eclectic sound.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
As with any group of people, communication is vital to long-term cohesion. Over the years we’ve become like an extended family. It really does take a village, and we’re grateful for the support of our community. Through personnel changes and other everyday struggles, we find ways to keep creating. Life changes fast, but our passion to make great music together has never changed.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Entertaining different audiences can require a lot of versatility and ability to change things up in the moment. Though we play mostly cover songs live, it is a highly curated selection of a wide range of genres, from country to alternative to rock and blues. In 2019, we decided to record an all original album at Simpson Sound Labs in KCK. Psuedonymously titled ‘D.B. Cooper & The Lost Cash’ it is a showcase of our eclectic style.
What’s next?
Moving forward in 2027, we plan to focus on writing original material to record a new album, while still continuing to book festivals and events. We have a lot of new ideas in the tank that will be exciting to develop.
