Conversations with Gavin Crump

Today we’d like to introduce you to Gavin Crump.

Hi Gavin, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
My passion for massage therapy began when I was very young at the age of 5. My grandma developed diabetes and I would massage her hands and feet with lotions and creme to help give her some relive from the onset of neuropathy. As time went on, I excelled greatly in anatomy and biology in high school and college and found that I was able to correlate a lot of my learnings into my understanding of the body in track and field as an athlete and that allowed me to compete better.
After my time in college, I found that massage therapy would be the perfect marriage of interest and subjects I excelled in growing up. As soon I got my hands on some bodies in class, I knew that this would be my permanent career. One where I could grow, help, care, and educate as a health professional.
In massage therapy school I was awarded student of the class in both kinesiology and special populations courses. After graduating I pursued Erik Daltons Myoskeletal Alignment Therapy as I found more advanced and therapeutic modalities of manual therapy to be my strong suite. After becoming a master in the practice, I now assist in teaching Myoskeletal workshops around the country.
I then furthered my education and attending the London College of Osteopathy and Health Sciences and earn a diploma in Osteopathic Manual Therapy (OMT). I now have a hybridized practice GC Medical Massage to provide cutting edge manual therapy to those in chronic pain.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Finding the right location has been a struggle for me. I started my practice in Parkville MO which was a great place but I required a larger room in a more accessible area, then tried Leawood KS but struggled with overhead cost. Then finally finding my current therapy office in Gladstone I have the perfect balance of everything now.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a multi-instrumentalist of many years. I began playing drums when I was a toddler. Picked up guitar and bass at the age of 15-16. I currently play in two bands. I play guitar and write and produce music for my band Kegare and play drums in the band Khaos Theory. I also mix, master and produce local artist as well as solo music that is available on all streaming platforms.

Can you share something surprising about yourself?
I am currently the only Master Myoskeletal therapist in the state of Missouri. Many people have traveled across the state and from the Kansas side to visit my practice.
