Today we’d like to introduce you to Eon Alexander.
Hi Eon, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, you could tell our readers some of your backstories.
Loving music started at a very young age for me. I was born into it; whether it was making up songs a the kitchen table, beating on pots and pans, or rapping on the school bus, it’s always been a burning passion of mine. I had made up most of my identity for most of my life, even before I was aware of it. I would say that I wouldn’t have anything or anyone that mattered in my life without it. My closest relationships (like most people) all have ties to music in some way. My parents are both musically inclined. My mother has a strong background in gospel and secular choir; my father took piano lessons as a child, raised by his mother/my grandmother, who holds a master’s degree in music from UMKC. My father also always strongly loved hip-hop/rap, jazz, and soul. These are the three most prominent and influential genres of music that I create today.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Not. The road has been filled with many shortcomings, doubts, failures, grief, crippling fear, insecurities, anxiety, heartbreak, and loneliness. We knew the odds before we started and succeeded despite them. I never asked for any of this to be easy. I need it to be possible. We still have a long way to go, but I’m enjoying the process of getting there.
Thanks for sharing that. So, you could tell us a bit more about your work.
I am a hip-hop/rap artist, singer, songwriter, and producer. I’m known for being a man with a heart of gold, full of compassion and integrity. I’m most proud of maintaining relationships with the people I love most over time. What sets me apart is my discipline and faith. There are countless talented people in this world. Most of them will never realize their greatest potential because they never will care enough about themselves and the people they love most to do the work required to become great.
Do you have any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
I was riding shotgun in a C4 Vette with my Uncle Steve while my little brother was in the back seat plastered to the back window because we were going so fast.
