Conversations with Dominique Bradley

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dominique Bradley

Hi Dominique, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I started out booking travel for my friends and family since I love to travel myself, and often was asked to just go ahead and book the trips since I loved using shortcuts, rewards points, etc for redemption. I started to hear horror stories from my friends and colleagues about their experiences with travel agencies and decided to venture out and get the training and certifications I needed to better assist them. Fora Travel came across my feed on social media, and what was so compelling about this agency for me was the extensive training and exclusive partnerships with luxury brands that I already loved. The perks that have come with this side venture of mine have blown my mind. Most of my business has come from word of mouth, and also taking the initiative to market myself personally on my social media channels.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has not been an easy road starting out. The hardest part has been putting in a lot of work for a client only to find out that they are no longer interested. While I am allowed to charge booking fees, I do not; and that has sometimes been my downfall, as all of my hard work goes down the drain. But I have been blessed in that for every client that doesn’t follow through, another comes right behind them and successfully books. I want to keep my best practice being offering zero booking fees so that nobody feels pressured into booking with me. Planning vacations is hard enough as it is, nobody wants the added pressure of feeling like they HAVE to use me. I believe that my work ethic and strong industry partner connections and relationships with top-tier brands will continue to drive business my way.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
My full time job when not booking travel with Fora is working in corporate America. I work for a boutique law firm in downtown Kansas City and manage 14 Funds. I have over 20 years’ worth of experience in legal and C-level executive support and management, and I pride myself on my leadership skills and ability to provide exemplary results. I’ve always believed in having multiple streams of income, and the hustle mentality is rooted in me deeply. I’ve also taken on brand ambassadorships with different brands in order to earn commissions, as well as bring attention to the brands. I’m learning to juggle these responsibilities and maneuver through balancing my part-time work with my personal life. One thing you cannot do is outwork me! I don’t like idle time, and am always looking for the next opportunity. That is why traveling is so important to me. I am learning to take time to unwind and turn my brain off and unplug every now and then.

We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you?
It’s all God. I don’t believe in luck. I believe that each and every experience (good or bad) brings about a lesson, and plays an integral role in all of our character development. I would not be where I am today without the bad times. I would not be able to have hope to move forward from bad times had it not been for the good times. I believe that everything I go through has the capability to help someone down the line understand that bad times don’t always last. Diamonds are refined in the fire. Olive oil is made from the pressing. Clay is molded by the manipulation of the potter. Everything I have ever gone through has been for a reason, and led me exactly where I need to be. Business was a risky venture for me, but it has paid off due to lessons I have learned along the way. What is meant for me will always find its way to me in the capacity in which it is supposed to be.
