Conversations with Darby Davis

Today we’d like to introduce you to Darby Davis.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I started Moonlit Petrichor after I purchased a bar of soap from a small shop that is no longer in business. I fell in love with the way their soap made my skin feel. I learned how to make soap. I made so much that I couldn’t use it all. My ex suggested I try to sell it. So I did. And here we are! 5.5 years later.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I jumped in with no money and no real plan or goals. The economy has been this years biggest challenge. The community has been great, tho. Ive received a ton of support. I’ve been very lucky.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a soap and candle maker. I refer to myself as the local candle lady or an Aromatic Alchemist. I love to mix fragrances and come up with new, deeper combinations. My shop focuses on locally handmade items. I also try my best to carry items that are sourced from the Midwest or at least items made by diverse woman owned businesses.

In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
I hope to still be in this location in 5 years or so. If not, I’d love to have a bigger place somewhere where some of my closest friends could have bigger spaces for their creations. I’d also love to have a bigger online presents and maybe an employee or 2. If the finances allow.
