Today we’d like to introduce you to Danielle Fries.
Hi Danielle, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
My name is Danielle Fries. I live in Lone Jack, Missouri, and I’m a multi-media artist. I didn’t consider my art as a career option until last year. That’s when I started pushing myself more, attending art shows, and expanding my knowledge of career options in the art industry. Recently, I’ve started taking commissions, which has been a big step for me.
I work with both acrylic and oil paints and specialize in painting people and scenic settings. I’ve also recently completed a few pet portraits and vehicle commissions. I’m currently studying paintless dent repair at MCC in Longview. That side of things still feels creative. I’m excited to learn about many different artistic career options. I’m focused on growing as an artist, taking more commissions, and keeping a balance between painting and the other creative paths I’m exploring.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The art industry is definitely a little harder than most when it comes to putting yourself out there. Some art shows I’ve vended in have been a total dud. In others, I’ve almost sold out completely. Art is hit or miss, and it takes the right person for the right painting. I’m happy to continue taking on the challenge and growing my business. I enjoy painting and helping people put their creative ideas onto a canvas.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I specialize in both oil and acrylic painting. I love working on almost anything and have painted a wide variety of ideas. From trucks to people and scenic settings, I’m happy to do it all. Oil paint is a harder medium to get used to because it requires more time. A lot of artists I’ve met agree that it comes harder than acrylic. Still, I prefer the final look of oil over acrylic, so I invested a lot of time learning the medium. I’m proud of the skills I’ve built along the way and of consistently improving my speed with each commission I take on.
Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
Growing up, I loved being outside and exploring. I grew up on a lot of acreage, so my brothers and I always found something to do. We spent a lot of time on four-wheelers and dirt bikes. Despite loving the outdoors, I also loved to draw. I started my art journey very young, drawing all kinds of animals to hang on my walls. I had a lot of fun growing up, and I still love the outdoors just as much.
