Today we’d like to introduce you to Chris Garrett
Hi Chris, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Our story began out of necessity. Do Good Co.’s founding family collection of clothing (pieces too good to discard) became out of hand. Janet knew others must have similar feelings and attachments about their clothing, furniture, etc. The answer was to create a way to give high quality, cherished items new life and generate proceeds for charity at the same time.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
A mixed road. Many people quickly understand how important sustainability is to our culture. Others, frankly, don’t get it. Anything worth doing can be a challenge . Getting the right the curation and assortment is always an issue. Good staffing measures have helped address that now.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
Since I’m the general manager, I can speak to background. I have a multi-faceted skill set, pre-med to art & design, from university. Our full-time associate is a gifted graphic designer. Somehow the combination works out well. Janet, our founder, is a community leader who highly values diversity, creativity and just plain fun. Photography is also a great passion of hers, .Barbara, her sister, plays an active role bringing a tour de force of collective experience to our store, particularly not-for -profit work.
Are there any apps, books, podcasts, blogs or other resources you think our readers should check out?
Studying up and visiting other resalers is very helpful. Websites/blogs are good, as well, like “What People are Wearing.” Sites like Maison Hotel and stores like Cheeky Vintage are inspirations. Our charities and their wonderful staffs give us momentum to always do better.
