Today we’d like to introduce you to Cassidy Drury
Hi Cassidy, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I didn’t always know I’d become a wedding photographer. At first, photography was just something I did for fun—a creative outlet that helped me slow down and notice the little things. But once I photographed my first wedding, I was hooked. There was something about the energy of the day, the emotions, the way everything comes together for one meaningful celebration. I knew I wanted to be part of that in a bigger way.
What started with a few weddings for friends quickly grew through word of mouth. I realized I wasn’t just passionate about taking beautiful photos—I cared deeply about the experience my couples had along the way. That’s when I started treating photography like a business. I invested in education, built systems that allowed me to serve clients well, and focused on creating work that felt timeless and intentional.
Today, I’m lucky to work with couples who value photography as more than just a checklist item. They care about meaningful details, real connection, and being present on their wedding day. Building a business around that has been challenging and incredibly rewarding. I feel grateful every time I pick up my camera and get to do this work.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Definitely not a smooth road, but I don’t think it’s supposed to be. Owning a business—especially in the creative world—comes with a lot of trial and error. In the beginning, I had no idea how much time would go into things other than photography. I had to learn how to market myself, build a client experience, manage finances, and wear all the hats. That learning curve was steep.
There were also seasons where bookings felt slow or I questioned whether I was “good enough” to make this a real career. It’s easy to get caught in comparison when you’re surrounded by so many talented people in the industry. But every challenge taught me something—how to set boundaries, how to better serve my clients, and how to stay grounded in my own vision rather than trying to keep up with trends.
Looking back, the struggles were part of what shaped me into a more intentional business owner. And honestly, I’m still learning and growing. That’s kind of the beauty of it.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m a wedding photographer based in Kansas City, and I specialize in documenting luxury weddings with a timeless, editorial, and emotional approach. My style blends natural, romantic storytelling with an eye for beautiful composition and thoughtful details. I work with couples who care deeply about the experience they’re creating—not just for themselves, but for the people they love.
What I’m probably most known for is the way I connect with my clients. I don’t just show up to take pretty photos—I spend time getting to know each couple and understanding what matters most to them. That connection allows me to tell their story in a way that feels personal and honest, not posed or overly curated. I want their gallery to reflect the real, in-between moments just as much as the iconic ones.
I’m really proud of the trust I’ve built with both clients and planners. It means the world when someone tells me they felt completely taken care of or that their images brought them right back to how the day felt. I don’t take that lightly.
What sets me apart is the balance I bring—I have a calm, grounding presence on a fast-paced day, but I’m also incredibly detail-oriented. I love the art of capturing emotion, movement, and atmosphere in a way that feels elevated, but still true to who my couples are.
What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
One of my favorite things about Kansas City is the community. There’s such a strong sense of pride here, and people genuinely want to support local businesses and creatives. It’s big enough to have amazing food, culture, and talent, but it still feels approachable and connected. I also love how many beautiful, historic venues we have—there’s so much character and charm around the city, which makes it a dream for weddings.
If I had to choose something I like least, it’s probably the unpredictability of the weather. It can be sunshine and 75 one minute and storming the next—which definitely keeps me on my toes as a photographer. But honestly, even that just feels like part of the KC experience. We learn to roll with it and find beauty in the unexpected.
