Today we’d like to introduce you to Carrie GERACI.
Hi Carrie, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I am an artist. I started teaching and then was offered a position as the director of the Center of Wonder in Jackson, Wyoming. While there, a young artist offered to be our wonder ambassador and started creating temporary public art installations. I saw the power of art to transform sites, and the pleasure of discovering public art provided for the public. I attended a public art conference and came home with a decision to start a public art non-profit in Jackson, Wyoming. I still make art but am dedicated to creating opportunities for artists to activate public spaces.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has been a road filled with learning opportunities. No two public art installations are ever the same, site conditions change, artistic vision is always evolving, and technical requirements vary widely per location.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
JH Public Art is known for engaging the community in the process of making art, creating opportunities for all ages and abilities of artists, and for commissioning work that celebrates the ethos of our community.
What was your favorite childhood memory?
