Conversations with Brittany Thompson

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brittany Thompson.

Hi Brittany, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My creative journey began early in my childhood. I remember telling people early on that I wanted to be someone who would design things like book and magazine covers, billboards, or other similar graphics. My fascination with photography and design grew as I did, and I eventually purchased my first copy of Photoshop at age 14. Over that next decade, I became obsessed with learning all the “ins and outs” of various design and video platforms.

I opened my freelance business, “Conversion Visions,” in January of 2010 and worked with various companies across Kansas City to provide product photography and design services. From restaurant menus and apparel to high-end jewelry magazine advertisements, I have been blessed to work with nearly every type of industry in KC! Through this process, I also fell in love with the business side of media. I returned to school and received a degree in Business and Marketing Management in 2019.

I interviewed with Safe Haven Security Services in August of 202o and instantly knew this company was my “home.” Safe Haven brought me in and granted me complete creative freedom to conceptualize and form our brand online. In this day and age, it is a very big deal to hand your entire online presence over to one person, and I carry gratitude for that every single day! The energy at Safe Haven is unmatchable- it feels like we are one big family. I love going to work every day and cannot wait to see the future creative endeavors in store for me at Safe Haven.

I have recently joined the team at Homindy (KC based!) to bring their brand to life online. In addition, I continue to run social media at Midtown Kava on W. 39th street in Kansas City, Missouri. Creativity is my entire world, and here in Kansas City, we are surely full of wonderful, creative people! I love Kansas City wholeheartedly and could not have asked for a better city or career.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been fairly smooth?
One of my biggest lessons hit me right after I received my degree when I was asked to jumpstart a social media campaign that did not align with my values. I was so eager to put my new skills to use that I decided to take the job anyway. My time with that company ended very quickly. I learned that no stepping stone in my career was worth using my skills to support anything that did not align with me!

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar, what can you tell them about what you do?
I am the National Social Media Supervisor at Safe Haven Security Services, LLC. We have just shy of 100 offices around the nation!  I also run social media at Midtown Kava on W. 39th Street.

I am known for:
– Advertisement production (print and digital).
– Developing and implementing social media strategies.
– Creating, maintaining, and growing new and existing social networks.
– Designing advertising campaigns.
– Monitoring SEO and web traffic metrics, as well as analyzing and monitoring social media analytics.
– Producing engaging copy.
– Having a passion for CRM (customer relationship management) online.

As odd as it sounds, I do not strive to be “set apart.” I want to be with them, capturing their businesses as if I’m just another one of them! I truly want the hearts and souls of Kansas City to be the stars of my career. That is what makes my career fulfilling to me. Staying embedded can be just as successful as staying apart or above.
