Today we’d like to introduce you to Brian B. Shynin.
Hi Brian, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today.
It all started when my father used to talk to me about what I wanted to do with my life when I was entering High School at Paseo in 1999. I had no clue what I wanted to do, but he came up with the idea of Broadcasting. I had never thought of myself in that position, but it made all the sense in the world because I was an avid radio listener, and I would mute football games and pretend to broadcast them at home. When I eventually attended Northeast HS, my interest in media became an after-school extracurricular activity, eventually becoming a part of the curriculum. From there, I took my talents to Northwest Missouri State, majored in Broadcasting, landed an internship at Hot 103 Jamz in May of 2006, got hired on June 13th, 2007, and have been there ever since.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Nothing was smooth about this road. I guess the one constant obstacle was/is getting used to change. Nothing stays the same, especially in the society we live in now. You cannot remain stagnant; you have to be able to adapt and thrive. The way you do that is to have a solid foundation of a great work ethic, foresight, determination, and discipline.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar, what can you tell them about what you do?
Radio and DJing are my primary sources of trade, but I have a variety of skill sets, including producing, writing, and streaming. My prime skill set is making people feel good. When I’m on the air, I want you to enjoy yourself and have a good time. When I’m DJing, I want my crowd to be energetic, happy, and joyful, screaming every word to every song I play and enjoying my transitions. I love the satisfaction of seeing people celebrate life with their friends and family at my parties. I’m most proud of the work that Shay Moore and I did on my morning show, The Morning Grind with Shay and Shyne. The amount of community work done on that show is astronomical. We both worked hard to consistently deliver an outstanding performance every day, a show Kansas City deserves.
Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
Luck has been described to me as when preparation meets opportunity. I firmly believe in the Universe speaking to you and that things are done (when not forced) in God’s time. Things will shake for you eventually, but are you ready? Do you have what it takes to grind out and be excellent every day? I’d say I have had more bad luck than good, but I wasn’t ready for what was in store.
