Conversations with Ashley Mohr

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ashley Mohr

Hi Ashley, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
The short story?I got my start in radio in 2007 as a promotions assistant for KPNT 105.7 The Point in St. Louis, within two months of being in the promotions department,I was asked if I wanted to be on air. I had done one year of on air work in Warrensburg, MO at KWKW The J 98.5, so of course I said, YES! By 2011 I had my own midday show, and a year later I moved into afternoon drive and spend the next 10 years on the air in St Louis. I “retired” from radio in 2022 to work in the Cannabis space, and in content creation. I worked for 2 years for soccer teams, a mattress company, and for multiple cannabis brands, before being asked if I was interested in morning radio in Kansas City. I was ready for a change and a challenge so I jumped at the chance, and have been here just short of a year. You can hear me 5-9am M-F on Sparks and Lux, on 101 The Fox. I also work in Soccer, I got my start as the public address announcer for the St. Louis Ambush in the Major Arena Soccer League, then got hired for MLS Next Pro St Louis City2 as PA and in Game Host, and have now joined The Kansas City Comets as a Gameday Sideline reporter.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I think it has been a combination of SMOOTH and ROUGH. Things were very uncertain from 2007-2011. There are not a lot of on air positions in any one city so you are vying for a job that only becomes available when someone else leaves, which usually means being fired. Being female in a male dominated career field has caused a lot of struggle, most radio stations only have one, and back in the day, most didn’t have any, unless they were a side character on a morning show zoo. I dug in, worked hard, rarely said no to extra work, showed up early, left late, and dodged sexual harrassment from artists and industry men….but in the end, I’ve come out very strong and very capable.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
In radio I have been known for my interviews and my desire to connect thru social media. I got made fun of a TON for being so interested in social media. I used to code the stations myspace page and was the one who convinced them we needed a facebook in 2008, I have even won an awards for social media from the Missouri Broadcasters Association. I love connecting people, online, on air, and in real life! I have also interviewed some huge stars such as, Jack White, Flo Rida, and Ed Sheeran, just to name a few, literally I have doe so many interviews I can’t count. Now I get to do it in the soccer space interviewing the coaches and players!

What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
Listen to your GUT! You will feel if something is wrong or doesn’t match your ideals, but you have to pay attention to your BODY, not just your mind.
