Today we’d like to introduce you to Ashley Fewell.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I’ve spent a lot of my working life in the restaurant industry, but photography has always been something I’ve been passionate about. About six years ago, I took that passion and started building my own photography business. The more I’ve grown, the more I’ve wanted to push myself, really learn my craft, and become the best photographer I can be. I’m also working on building my business around the entire client experience, not just taking pictures. I want people to feel comfortable, enjoy their session, and walk away with beautiful photos that capture memories they’ll have for a lifetime. I’m still growing and learning, but I’m really proud of how far I’ve come and excited about where I can take it.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It definitely hasn’t always been a smooth road. One of my biggest challenges has been balancing growing my photography business while still working another job. I’ve also had to learn that being a photographer means wearing a lot of different hats. It’s not just taking photos—it’s learning the technical side of photography, editing, running a business, marketing, communicating with clients, and constantly finding ways to improve. There have definitely been times I’ve questioned myself or felt overwhelmed, but I’ve learned to keep pushing myself instead of giving up. Every challenge has taught me something, and I think it’s made me more determined to keep learning and growing.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’m a photographer and the owner of Lens of Love Photography. I photograph everything from families and seniors to maternity, couples, and weddings. For me, the best part is knowing that I’m creating something that becomes more valuable to someone as time goes on. These are photos of their kids growing up, graduating, getting married, starting families, and all of those moments in between.
I’m most proud of the business I’ve built and how much I’ve grown as a photographer over the last six years. I’m constantly learning and pushing myself to improve both my photography and the experience I give my clients. I think what sets me apart is how much I genuinely care about the people I photograph. I don’t want someone to feel like just another session on my calendar. I want them to feel comfortable, taken care of, and leave with beautiful photographs of memories they’ll have for the rest of their lives.
What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
I would say determination is one of the biggest reasons I’ve gotten where I am. When I really want something, I’m willing to put in the work to make it happen. There have been plenty of nights I’ve stayed up way too late editing, working on my business, or learning something because I wanted to get it right. I don’t give up easily, even when things get frustrating or don’t go the way I planned. I just keep going, learn what I can from it, and try again. That determination has gotten me this far, and I know it will continue to push me toward where I want to be.
