Conversations with April Madden

Today we’d like to introduce you to April Madden.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I am a clothing and costume designer with 30 years experience. I have worked for the performing arts, films, commercials, celebrity clients, bridal and for lovely people on an every day basis. When people ask me what I create my response is “I can create anything….if I want too. “ The concept of Precious Frivolities is something big and beautiful and completely The Stuff that Dreams are Made of. Precious Frivolities is an elevated shopping experience curated by me. Our initiative is to show Kansas Cities finest clothing and jewelry designers, fine and decorative artists, antiques & vintage dealers, body care products, custom scents, and plant sculptures. We represent a nearly 30 creatives all under one glorious roof!

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I am a born problem solver. I have always been able to prioritize and address the most urgent issues while keeping the big picture in view. These skills have helped me navigate this new venture as well as my therapist who helps me to keep my infamous temper in check and exude grace under pressure. So far so good!

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I have always marched to the beat of my own drum. My most favorite and best accomplishments have been achieved because I was given free rein to do what I do best, Create. I love a challenge, I’m also wicked good with a budget if I need to be,

What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
Kansas City has been good to me, I have lived here for 12 years. I work downtown, my store is downtown, I dislike the paid parking with 2 hour limits but who doesn’t?
