Conversations with Angelique Hines

Today we’d like to introduce you to Angelique Hines.

Hi Angelique, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
I’m Angelique Hines aka Mz. Angel. I know you’re probably wondering why I spelled it like that, lol. Well HAE for me stands for Heavenly Angel Entertainment which is the entertainment company that I started in 2018 to represent myself as an artist and businesswoman. Who am I? That’s actually a much more complex question. But to put it simply, I’m a single mother trying to break generational curses and change our lives for the better doing things that make me happy. I’ve loved music since a young girl. I used to sing when I was younger and was the first actress at my then-new school Metro Tech Entertainment has always called me.

I was born in Los Angeles, California, and moved to Kansas City, MO with my mom at a young age. Raised in KC, MO I had a troubled childhood but was determined to overcome and achieve the success I dreamed of as a young girl. I started my interest in music by being in the church and high school choirs. I loved to sing but there was one problem. I only felt comfortable singing in a group, however, I was an avid poetry and spoken word artist and loved performing monologues in theatre. I eventually decided to mix my love for music with my love for poetry and theatre and became a hip-hop artist as a teenager at 18.

I overcame molestation by family members, rape after senior prom, 3 tubal pregnancies as a young adult, and being told I would never have kids to being a full-time entrepreneur and single mom of 4 amazing young adults and children. In 2018 I was forced to make the best decision of my life and started my entertainment company Heavenly Angel Entertainment LLC and made it official. This company was how I represented myself as an artist at 20 but I had never made it official. I represent myself as an artist and am currently working with a young artist that I am developing and can’t wait to introduce to the world next year. I offer graphic design services and some music registration services. I assist with artist development, and branding and utilize my network to connect individuals with other artists and or service providers that can assist their level up. I perform as an artist known as Mz. Angel and I were introduced to this KC Music Scene in 2015. When I dropped my first Ep “Love, Loathe and Lust’ in 2016 and caught everyone’s attention with my single “Story of a Single Mother”. I pride myself on being a real artist I like to call it. I write songs that I can relate to that speak on real-life situations/struggles/aspirations and goals. I am not afraid to reveal the hard stuff and be transparent. I take that same model in my businesses. I don’t claim perfection because there is no such thing but I definitely put my heart and soul into everything I do. I’ve released my second project under my entertainment company. As an artist, I got a great opportunity to work with a talented producer/artist/manager/screenwriter Abaleanie with my last project Unleashed. Working with him was the first time I let someone else control the direction of my project. And I must say I am pleased with the outcome.

“Unleashed” is definitely one of my best projects of the 3. In 2021 I started a new journey and opened my custom printing business Divine Divas Customs where I do custom printing with HTV and nonclothing items with vinyl. I also make custom 420 and self-defense keychains from epoxy resin. I also include in this business my handmade jewelry and accessories I make under “Get Fancy” Unique Creations which is the jewelry company I have had since 2006. I guess you can say I am a complex woman because again these are just some of my business endeavors. As a single mother and mature woman working for others were no longer for me. I’ve always had many interests and talents so that is why I prefer to work long hard hours to grow.

I started a spiritual awakening last year that brought so many new things to the forefront. I started this journey in Dec. 2020. This was an amazing yet rough time for me which I am currently writing a book on so I won’t say much more. In 2021 I also lost my grandmother a month before I planned to move to back to California to be closer to her.

In February of 2022, I followed thru with honoring her legacy and name by becoming a certified notary public in the state of Missouri. I named my business after my G-moms Bee Divine Mobile notaries and services. My G-moms went by bail lady Bee and she was a very divine being. I am also a licensed wedding officiant under my notary business. At the end of the day, I am motivated to change my life and overcome my circumstances by any means necessary. I am honored to be asked to be in this magazine. As a single mom, artist, model, actress, businesswoman, and creator I feel misunderstood. But I guess I said it in my single from the levitation album “Level Up” I’m just trying to level up.

I also made a name for myself as an Event planner and booking agent for the lady’s showcases I’ve thrown since 2015 and branded as the Divine Divas All Ladies Showcase in 2018.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Struggles (lol) is an understatement. At times I must admit I gave up. But when I look in the mirror and see the determination in my eyes and I look at my children I know giving up is not an option. I am so determined I taught myself in 2020 how to use the sewing machine I bought in 2010 so I could make masks to help my hotel bill because we were homeless. I stopped writing my music at that time because I just wasn’t in the mood to tell another sad story on wax. I had my name tarnished and my reputation belittled by the person I trusted. loved and believed in the most in 2018 and I kind of got tired of fighting for my credibility.

When I say I almost gave up… I literally wanted to give up on it all on top of that my household went into an uproar at that time my oldest daughters didn’t appreciate the household dynamics or the fact that I was working several jobs, doing my music again and performing, and still dealing with bipolar disorder, severe anxiety and depression, fibromyalgia and PTSD alone. I wasn’t perfect but through it all, I continued to find ways to push myself and reinvent myself. Every day I’m affirming myself reminding myself that even If I get no sales or calls keep pushing, reach out to another market and most importantly keep working on myself and stay focused and never give up.
