Conversations with Amber (Millie) Gates

Today we’d like to introduce you to Amber (Millie) Gates.

Hi Amber (Millie), can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
From a very young age, I always knew I wanted to do great things and make a positive impact in not only my life but others as well. At the age of 12, I was involved with my first outreach event. This event not only gave me a more hands-on approach of what I wanted to do but it also put an urge to do more in me. When I was 19, I finally decided to create my own Non For Profit where I take money out of my own pocket and help anyone I see around the community that is in need. I supply those that are in need with food, clothes, toiletries and other donated materials. We all start somewhere and I plan on expanding my outreach on a broad scale. My main goal is to indeed impact those that are in need in anyway. Be it physically mentally or emotionally. I’ve experienced life on both scales and I would like to be that motivational force for those that feel like giving up or like they don’t have a voice. To totally switch gears. While attending high school my junior year, I received word of a competition what would allow me to attend MU for the summer as a journalist. After submitting an essay and photos, I was selected out of limited spots statewide to attend the University of Missouri – Columbia the summer of my junior year going into my senior year.

This early start in college paved way for me to win a scholarship and gave a glimpse of what to expect when I graduated high school. Although things seemed to be aligning with attending MU. I felt led in another direction and my mom did as well. The feeling was to move to Atlanta, GA and start our lives in a new surrounding. So we took that leap of faith and moved. Not even after a week of being in GA, I starting receiving casting calls to go on set for various tv shows and movies. As I made my way through the ins and outs of the acting industry confident and expecting the unexpected. The in depth look of behind the scene gave me a better understanding of what it took to get things done. It is/was everything I could imagine and much more. Although I’ve conquered the acting world in GA. I feel there is nothing like receiving support from your hometown. With this in mind, I decided to make that move back to Kansas City, MO. Now in KC, I have took the fashion world by storm and emerged with certainty.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
Although at times, I might feel as though I have failed and that there’s an obstacle in the road. The reality is to first notice that something is a failure and learning to enact growing. I count every failure as a lesson and use that experience as a way to gain knowledge. I apply that same way of thinking in regards to the obstacle as well. The art of knowing something and still being able to moving forward towards positivity will give you a great outcome.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
Now after conquering my first fashion show. I can rightfully say that I am a Triple Threat. Model Actress and Artist. The music aspect of my life runs in the family, so it came natural. It all started with my sister making a beat when she was 14 and I was 12. She produced and we recorded our first song. The rest is history. I first started acting and modeling when I was 19. Working in production for a few like Tyler Perry and Oprah Winfrey has not only been a blessing but a dream come true. Growing up, I always challenged myself to set extreme goals that I one day might achieve. Most of these goals I have scratched off my list. The rest is seemingly ahead. My all-time mission is to not only be a role model to the younger generation but everyone from all different walks of life.

So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
What matters most to me is God and my Family. Without those two things nothing would be right.
