Today we’d like to introduce you to Tyler Heidebrecht.
Hi Tyler, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I grew up in Olathe, Kansas and have always had a strong connection to this community. From an early age, I was interested in how things were built and how they functioned, which led me to study Architectural Engineering at Kansas State University. While in school, I worked in a variety of hands-on roles including roofing, landscaping, and handyman work, which gave me an early appreciation for both the technical and practical sides of the building industry.
After graduating in 2021, I began my career in consulting engineering, designing mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems for commercial, industrial, and mission critical facilities. That experience gave me a deeper understanding of how buildings perform and reinforced the importance of thoughtful design and quality execution.
In 2024, I started Heidebrecht Homes as a way to get back to working with my hands and serving homeowners directly. What began as a small side business quickly grew through referrals and positive client experiences, leading me to transition into the business full-time. I became a licensed general contractor and began taking on larger renovation and construction projects.
Today, Heidebrecht Homes operates as a design-build company focused on delivering high-quality craftsmanship with a strong emphasis on communication, trust, and long-term value. My goal is to continue growing into custom home design and construction, combining my background of engineering, construction, and client partnership into a streamlined, high-quality building process.
At the core of the business is a desire to serve people well and build spaces that support strong families, communities, and the values that make this area so great.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It definitely hasn’t been a perfectly smooth road, but that’s been an important part of the process. One of the biggest challenges early on was balancing multiple responsibilities. Working full-time in a corporate engineering role while building a business on nights and weekends required a lot of discipline, long hours, and learning how to manage both time and expectations effectively, especially while becoming a first-time parent.
Another challenge was stepping away from the stability of that engineering role to pursue the business full-time. That decision came with a level of risk, but it was also driven by the momentum I was seeing through client referrals and the opportunity to build something meaningful. Looking back, that step of faith was one of the most important decisions I’ve made.
From a technical standpoint, transitioning from engineering into hands-on construction also required growth. While I had experience with manual labor and a strong understanding of how buildings function, I’ve continued to develop my skills in execution, project management, and working directly with clients and trades. The construction industry demands a high level of accountability, so success comes down to clear communication, transparency, and the ability to adapt quickly.
Overall, each of these challenges has helped refine both the business and my approach to the work. They’ve reinforced the importance of transparency, clear communication, and a commitment to doing things the right way, even when it takes more time or effort.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Heidebrecht Homes?
Heidebrecht Homes is a design-build construction company based in Olathe, Kansas, serving the greater Kansas City area. We specialize in commercial and residential renovations, repairs, and construction projects, with a focus on delivering high-quality craftsmanship and a seamless experience for homeowners and business owners.
What sets us apart is the combination of an engineering background and hands-on construction experience. With a foundation in architectural engineering and professional experience designing building systems, we approach every project with a deeper understanding of how buildings should function. That allows us to make better decisions in the field and deliver work that performs well over the long term.
We are also highly focused on communication and transparency throughout the entire process. From initial planning to project completion, our goal is to keep clients informed, set clear expectations, and follow through on what we say we will do. In an industry where that is often lacking, we believe consistency and trust are just as important as the quality of the final product.
While we continue to take on a range of commercial and residential projects, our long-term vision is to grow into a full-service design-build firm focused on custom homes and new construction. We are building systems, relationships, and a reputation that will support that growth over time.
Ultimately, we take pride in doing things the right way. That means prioritizing quality over shortcuts, building strong relationships with our clients, and creating spaces that add real value to the homes, businesses, and families we serve.
How do you think about happiness?
What makes me happiest is seeing the impact of what I build on the people around me. Whether that’s helping a homeowner improve their space, creating something that can be enjoyed for generations, or simply being able to provide for my family, there’s a lot of fulfillment in doing work that has lasting meaning.
Outside of business, my greatest joy comes from my family. Being a husband and a father has reshaped the way I think about time, responsibility, and what really matters long-term. It’s a constant reminder of why I work hard and what I’m ultimately building toward.
My faith is also a foundational part of that perspective. It gives me a sense of purpose and direction beyond work itself and influences how I approach both my business and relationships. I try to reflect that in how I treat people, the goals I pursue, and the standards I hold myself to.
At the end of the day, happiness for me is less about any single achievement and more about living with purpose, serving others well, and continuing to grow in both my work and personal life.
At the end of the day, happiness for me is less about any single achievement or a feeling and more about living out my faith, serving others well, and continuing to grow in both my work and personal life.
