Community Highlights: Meet Tina Engle of Kc Blooms Plant Boutique

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tina Engle.

Hi Tina, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself
I was always interested in plants since I could remember. As a kid, I enjoyed planting plants with my grandma and helping my grandpa pick fruits and vegetables from his garden (they always tasted better from HIS garden haha). My love for houseplants really started a few years ago and has grown tremendously over the last year while being stuck in the house during these crazy covid times. Some might say I have lots of houseplants because my kids have gotten older and I need something to care for and maybe there’s some truth to that! haha I am by no means a plant expert but I love learning about them and sharing my passion with my kids as my grandma and grandpa did with me when I was young. Hoping one day they too will carry on a love for plants.

I also get to be all creative through arts and crafts! I’ve learned how to sew, make soaps, bath bombs, jewelry, macrame and even stained glass! You will be able to find some of these items in my shop!

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has definitely been a learning process and if it wasn’t for the pandemic, I may not be doing what I love! Having to close my cleaning business during the shutdown made me take a step back to realize I was not feeling fulfilled. Although I was financially comfortable, I was not completely happy. That’s when I threw the idea around and my husband encouraged me to open a small shop! It was a scary and, at times, difficult transition but I have no regrets about starting this business.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
Kc Blooms specializes in houseplants! We offer a monthly houseplant club and delivery within 10 miles of Kc Blooms. Signup here -> https://www.kcblooms.com/subscriptions.

We have also recently started how-to workshops on macrame, terrariums, candle making and crafting. Workshops are one of my favorite parts of owning a brick and mortar. I love meeting new friends in my community that share similar interests.

Not only do we specialize in houseplants, Kc Blooms is a drop-off/pickup location for Compost Kc and now showcasing 26 local artists and always looking to grow! We carry jewelry, clothing, candles, bath & body products, macrame wall art, home decor, crystals, smudge sticks, and so much more.

I love supporting fellow Kansas City entrepreneur in what they love to do! I am a strong believer in shopping small and supporting our local economy, especially during these hard times as a small business owner!

What are your plans for the future?
We plan on hosting small birthday parties, GNO events and school field trips in the near future!

We are also planning on offering fresh flower deliveries next year!

Kc Blooms is a tiny shop with big ideas!
