Today we’d like to introduce you to Taylor Guzman.
Hi Taylor, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I’ve always loved to draw, but I really wanted to find a way to actually make money doing something I enjoy. I’m completely self-taught, so when I started doing caricatures, it was a lot of trial and error.
When I first began, I didn’t have the courage to draw people live—it was nerve-wracking! I started going around to different local businesses and offering to draw for free, just to get more comfortable. Those experiences helped me grow a lot, both in confidence and skill.
Now what really drives me is showing my kids that no matter what life throws at you—being a young mom, losing someone you love, or starting something new from scratch—you can overcome it. You can turn your struggles into something beautiful and even build a life around doing what you love.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Right around the time I started my business I lost my mom, and that really changed how I looked at life. Art became my outlet—it gave me a new kind of happiness, especially seeing people light up when they see their caricature.
As you know, we’re big fans of KC Caricatures . For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
My business really centers around creating fun, memorable experiences through art. I specialize in live caricatures for events—things like weddings, festivals, corporate parties, and community gatherings—but I also do custom digital pieces and commissions.
What sets me apart is the personal touch I bring. I don’t just draw people—I capture their personality. I love making people laugh and helping them see themselves in a new, lighthearted way. For me, it’s about connection and creating something that people will remember long after the event is over.
I’m most proud of how far the brand has come and how genuine it’s stayed. It started with me just showing up with a sketchpad and a lot of nerves, and now I get to work events all over, meet amazing people, and make a living doing what I love.
I want readers to know that my brand is all about spreading joy through creativity. Whether it’s a big event or a small personal gift, my goal is always to make people smile and feel seen
How do you think about happiness?
What makes me happy is seeing people’s reactions when they see their caricature for the first time. That moment of laughter or surprise—it’s the best feeling. I love knowing that something I created with my hands can bring someone joy, even if it’s just for a few minutes.
I also find a lot of happiness in the freedom that comes with doing what I love. Being able to create, connect with people, and show my kids that it’s possible to build something from passion—that’s what fills me up. It’s not just about the art; it’s about the happiness it spreads and the example it sets.
