Community Highlights: Meet Ron Stricker of Ron Stricker’s Auction

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ron Stricker.

Hi Ron, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
My Parents started our business in April of 1970. I was not a big fan of the Auction business growing up and pursued the dream of being a Athletic trainer. College was not my cup of tea and was told by one of my college professor’s I think you should go to be an Auctioneer like your father. So in August of 1984 I went to the Missouri Auction School down at the Stock Yards in KCMO and the rest is history. I love my job and I Love my profession. Unfortunately the Auction Profession is a dying bread but I will continue to carry the torch as long as I can. My service is definitely needed and we have helped many families over the past 55 years with there estates, downsizing, unforeseen divorce situations, commercial closeouts, etc. We sell lots of Real Estate at auction along with Commercial Real Estate as well. In the past 55 years our family and i have sold about everything you can think of. I personally have sold everything from a $1000.00 penny to a $100,000.00 Grandfather Clock. I do over 100 plus benefit Auctions every year for different charities across KC and surrounding area all for free no charge. I have traveled the US and Japan and have done an Auction at the base o Mount Fuji in Japan for the Japanese Coleman Collectors. Hopefully this will give you something to go on.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
With all business’s you get out of it what you put into it and we feel we do everything in our power to continue to bring quality items to the Auction for our buyers. What used to sell really well these days not so much. For example Antiques are still selling but not for the money they used to. A painted antique dresser 25 years ago would have brought $100 plus and someone would buy it take it home and refinish it and resell it for $300. these days a antique dresser in its perfect condition will not bring a $100. Another example that has changed are collectibles families all across the world used to collect Hummels, or Dolls, or Antique Glassware, again it still sells but not like it used to. The younger generation have no interest in these types of items. And the biggest thing as I mentioned before is the Auction Profession. You have everybody and there dog calling themselves auctioneers and doing online Auctions. This is not an Auctioneer this is a glorified Ebayer. The Auction profession was something people used to go and watch and enjoy. And I’m proud to say I still have a great crowd and falling after all these years. There is nothing out there like what we do I have traveled all over the US and yet to find anything that comes close to our Auction Service here in Gardner KS.

We’ve been impressed with Ron Stricker’s Auction , but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Our Business is like I said earlier a business to help families in need. Families lose loved ones, parents pass away, unforeseen divorce, retirement, business liquidations real estate in all forms Commercial, Residential, Land, and much more. We sell everything imaginable from Tools, Building material, Antiques, Modern Furniture, Glassware, Collectibles, and I get this question a lot what sells the best. Well what sells the best Are Antique signs, Firearms, And Gold and Silver, These items are always a big seller at any auction these days. If a family calls I usually set up an appointment to go visit with the family and access what i can do to help them. Rather we make arrangements, to bring it back to our Auction Gallery or have an onsite Auction at their location. If brought back to our facility we are set up in case of inclement weather, restrooms, concessions, and plenty of parking and seating for our customers. . Our facility is 10,000 sq. ft. and we utilize it to its fullest extent almost every auction we have plenty of space to market and showcase the items to be sold.
To have an on sight auction not all of the above is usually available. When having an on sight auction parking can be a problem weather can come in to play restrooms are to be provided for the public and people get hungry and thirsty so concessions are a must. With our building we are set up and ready to go. Our Auction service provides all the above. We will come in and pack up your items haul it to our facility and display and market it and sell it to the highest bidder. The auctions are on the 1st and 3rd Mondays of the month and depending on when your items are sold we pay our sellers the next day or the sellers proceeds will be mailed out the Wednesday after the Auction. When families call us they are usually overwhelmed and have no idea where to start and our auction company can and has eased the minds of many families over the past 55 years. People ask me what do we have to do and I tell them the only job you have is to trust me to do mine.

Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
As a young boy I had a terrible accident and was in out of KU Medical center for almost 3 years. My parents were put through Hell and managed to get through it with lots of family and friends support. I had unfortunately ate Drano when i was 18 months old and i was not able to eat or drink. After many days months and years with a miracle operation i was healed. To have all this go on as a child with my throat and now my throat is my lively hood its truly a miracle.
