Community Highlights: Meet Rayann Campbell of Coach Rayann LLC / Don’t Like it? Change it!

Today we’d like to introduce you to Rayann Campbell

Hi Rayann, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
“If you don’t like it…. Change it.”
I’ve heard this line dozens of times over the years. My husband loved me when I was thin, and loved me when I looked like Violet, from Charlie and the Chocolate factory, after she ate the 3 Course meal gum. But when I would start to complain about how my clothes fit, or the number on the scale he would just end the conversation with that famous quote. At the time, it seemed insensitive, and a little unsupportive, but it would turn out to be the most liberating idea he ever gave me. I am the one in control and if I don’t like it, nobody is going to change it for me.

It’s hard to believe we were having these conversations while smoking cigarettes, drinking our Pepsi, and eating pizza.
If you would have told me that one day I would be leading group fitness classes, Coaching women on Nutrition and Wellness, or that I would lose 70 Pounds and Love going to the gym, I’d laugh in your face. But I wouldn’t have known that I’d be losing my sister in a few years, I didn’t know the impact food and Exercise had on mental health, I didn’t even know that it was possible to feel “good” because I never felt it before. Like most young people from unstable homes, poverty, alcoholism/drugs, we thought, “This is normal.” We can never know the future, but we can change it… “We are what we repeatedly do” So if you repeatedly drink/eat unhealthy things you’ll become an unhealthy person. By that logic if I could just keep improving what I eat my health would improve with it.

Over the years this I slowly lost the weight and started trying to figure out how I could help my family change as well.
Eventually I took a course to get certified in Nutrition Coaching through NCI, then later ISSA Certified in Personal Training. I’ve stepped out into group fitness classes to try and help the absolute beginner, the shy, the ashamed, and the women just like me who feel physical pain when they try to plank. I want to bridge that gap between being a total beginner and feeling overwhelmed, to a person who has created healthy habits and is consistent in their progress. Over the coming years I intend to expand my coaching services to include Mindset and hormones, while my husband and mentor develops his Jiu Jitsu program for troubled youth.

We aren’t all born with flat tummies, or knowing how to fuel a body for success. My job is to help you find that future version of you, who loves herself. She cares about her health, and shows up because she knows, who I was born to be is much more than a number on a scale. It’s loving the person you are becoming enough to feed her health. It isn’t starving yourself because you are ashamed of your weight. It’s eating the foods that will make your feel full, satisfied, and feeling great for once. It’s building a figure, getting off of unnecessary medications, and getting your health back one better choice at a time.

There are actually a couple monumental moments that shaped the woman I am today but I think I’ll save those for another time. We still get much more time together because I run the “Don’t Like it? Change it!” Facebook group where we encourage each other, share recipes, do challenges and keep moving forward together. Come hang out with us! Also if you are ever in the Spring Hill area come to a free group fitness class! Mondays at 5:30-6:30PM and Thursdays at 10-11am. Bonus: you could come to a free Jiu Jitsu class Sundays at 2pm with my whole family! (Starting March 2nd) All at the Spring Hill Community Center!

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Life is filled with struggles. I’ll give 3 here but know there are multiple more devastating hurtles we needed to cross to get here, but these feel most relevant.

1) Early life: My sisters and I grew up in an extremely unstable home(s) We were poor because most the time Dad was drunk or in Jail and mom was gone all day long doing odd jobs just trying to figure out how to keep the electricity on. Nobody was teaching us about health or Nutrition, we just survived. We became very resourceful, turning old jeans into low riders by cutting the tops off, or washing dishes with old socks, or dumping all our leftover crackers into a big bowl of milk and going to TOWN on that bowl sharing the same spoon. I learned early on that if I wanted things I had to work for it. If my friends came over it was up to me to clean the house because nobody else was going to do it.

2) Motherhood: When I got pregnant I started receiving my own food stamps and it was a green light to “Feed the baby” I didn’t know how wrong this would turn out to be. After a really tough birth with my son, then loosing our daughter at `19 weeks, I ballooned up to 190 Pounds. I also suffered from depression and the shame and blame of thinking it was my fault she died. It was my weak body that failed her. All I knew is that I needed to get stronger, but how? Have you ever tried to do a plank when you weigh 190 Lbs.? Everything I tried just hurt me physically and emotionally. I tried all the fad diets, and started walking regularly, then squeeze in a lunge or two throughout the day. Over time I started to get some success with this one simple idea, “Make a better choice” everything else was doomed to failure, but this? Anyone can do this from anywhere in life. When you get to the store, go to the item you want, then replace it with something better. It doesn’t have to be perfect, just better. Over time you will learn more and be able to make better and better decisions.

3) Loss of my sister: I decided one day that I would become a Nutrition coach… I had the goal of getting all my sisters and mom healthy and saving them from all their pain/inflammation, mental health struggles, etc. I knew one day I would be able to save Tory from her lifelong battle with Obesity and we would all live happily ever after, ya know?
Midway through my schooling I get the worst phone-call a sister will ever get. They found my sister face down in a ditch and all this was for nothing. I should have done more, I should have been there for her, I shoulda… I coulda… I… Failed her.
It took a few days but my husband helped me realize something. Tory may be gone, but this schooling could still be the answer for thousands of women all around the world, just like her. I can honor her memory by finishing what I started. I had a choice. Let this drown me in sorrow and give up. Or… Let it be the rocket fuel I needed to put in all the work that would be required to make a difference in the world. I’m happy he pushed me to become my own Hero.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Coach Rayann LLC / Don’t Like it? Change it!?
When I got into this I thought people just need to know what to eat, then they will eat it and win. Simple right?
The truth is slightly different for all of us. What makes my coaching special is simple, we don’t make skinny girls. We make healthy women who come into their natural figure in time. Can we make the scale change? Sure. But what about next winter? Are you going to keep bouncing back and feeling ashamed ever summer/winter cycle? Or do you want to become a healthy woman with lower stress, anxiety, depression, and blood pressure? I’ll give you the secret, this woman looks great naturally. There is no diet. Just better choices, made over time. Mindset, and habits are the bridge toward this new life and it’s my job to help you balance your life/cortisol so making the right choices becomes easier than making the bad choices.
Something else I believe that sets me apart is my business is spirit led, meaning I pray for all of my clients and keep GOD in it. He is my partner here and it shows. Not all of my clients are spiritual in anyway and that’s okay. I believe God sends the right people across my path to help. I keep an open heart and ears, and He guides me, while I guide them. It is important for you to know that I do give God all the glory here. There are many parts to my story that people will never know about and I only survived and THRIVED because of him.
