Community Highlights: Meet Noah Dumpert of Bryan, Lykins, Hejtmenek & Dumpert

Today we’d like to introduce you to Noah Dumpert.

Noah, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
After completing law school at Washburn Law, I began the job hunt while sitting for the Bar Exam. With student loans soon coming due, I took a job at Bryan, Lykins, Hejtmanek & Fincher, as sort of a bridge job doing plaintiff’s litigation until I could get my foot in the door in the government legal sector, which I had primarily geared my education towards. Never in a million years did I imagine that 12 years later I would still be here, I would be a managing partner, and the firm would bear my name on the letterhead.

My practice has slowly evolved from strictly personal injury to including areas of law that I feel very passionately about: guardianship and conservatorship of disabled adults, with an emphasis on helping disabled veterans, and specialized estate planning for members of federally recognized Native American tribes. Having the freedom and ability to branch into areas that directly assist undeserved populations has been incredibly rewarding. At Bryan, Lykins, Hejtmanek & Dumpert, we continue to strive to provide outstanding representation to injured persons, as well as tailored services and specialized guidance for the marginalized communities who count on us.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Every day is a new challenge, that’s for sure. You are largely not prepared for the pitfalls and rigors of business management in law school, and there can be a steep learning curve. If you are not careful, you can easily find yourself spending more time doing administrative and business tasks rather than the work that actually generates revenue — practicing law. Figuring out ways to streamline these processes is essential to reducing overhead and increasing productivity.

The other major obstacle we face as a small law firm is competing to have our voices heard in a space where people are constantly inundated with billboards, TV commercials and radio ads. We do not have the budget or desire to keep up with larger firms that advertise around the clock. However, we have found that consistent, professional work and genuine relationships with our clients keeps the phones ringing. Positive word of mouth is the lifeblood of our business, and that is only accomplished by gaining the trust of the clients through exemplary representation.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Bryan, Lykins, Hejtmenek & Dumpert?
The Topeka lawyers of Bryan, Lykins, Hejtmanek & Dumpert PA have successfully handled thousands of Kansas cases over many years, collectively offering more than 100 years of experience in personal injury, workers compensation and wrongful death law for injured or grieving Kansans. As formidable litigators and skilled negotiators, our team of Topeka lawyers has never wavered from a legal fight in seeking justice for our clients. We have the skills, experience, and resources to fight and win cases against big corporations, big employers and insurance companies.

Beyond injury and worker’s compensation work, I focus heavily on the protection of disabled adults, either through Social Security disability claims or through guardianship and conservatorship services. I frequently advocate for disabled veterans, ensuring their well-earned benefits are safeguarded and managed in a way that supports their care for the rest of their lives. Over the past year, I’ve also partnered with a local federally recognized tribe to provide tailored estate planning services that navigate the unique (and often complex) intersection of tribal, state and federal law.

Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
There is a sense of pride found in the metro area not found in other cities that I have visited. Combined with a friendliness and sense of mid-western hospitality, and you get a unique and lovely place to work and live.

If I were to have a complaint, it is that the city is very vehicle-heavy, and there are little to no walkable neighborhoods or shopping districts.
