Hi Nicole, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started working in the nonprofit sector as a school administrator of a PK-8 public charter school. Throughout my life and career, I always have had a passion for helping people and pets. I saw firsthand how economic hardship impacts families and pets. I started Humans Enriching Animals Lives KC (HEALKC) as a way to support familles struggling to feed their pets and educate pet owners on resources available to help with vaccines and spay/neuter resources.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Starting a nonprofit is always a challenge. Experience, networking and education helps soften the bumps. Struggles include start-up funding, understanding 501c3 regulations and integrating technology/web site design.
As you know, we’re big fans of Humans Enriching Animals Lives KC (HEALKC). For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
HEALKC mission is to end pet surrender due to economic hardships. We are known for supporting pet families in Kansas City and Independence, delivering pet food, dog houses, collars, leashes, and help with h scheduling pets for spay/neuter surgeries and vaccines. What sets HEALKC apart is our ability to respond in a timely manner and deliver pet food to clients who struggle with transportation or are experiencing homelessness. HEALKC wants readers to know every pet family has unique needs and we strive to meet families and provide support in the care of their animals. HEALKC also partners with animal services and community organizations to support pet owners
