Today, we’d like to introduce you to Michelle Isabell.
Hi Michelle, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
My life has transformed dramatically in a relatively short period. In early 2017, I read “The 5 Second Rule” by Mel Robbins. At that time, I was at my corporate desk job, and finishing the book marked a pivotal moment for me—I knew I needed a change. By May, I had enrolled in real estate classes, obtained my license by September, and by January, I plunged full-time into the real estate profession.
This career shift was more than just a professional change; it redefined my entire life. I realized the potential of the life I could build for my children and myself through real estate, where my efforts directly influenced our future.
This realization was thrilling. After 13 years of marriage, my husband and I acknowledged our divergent paths and chose to divorce. I sought a better life for myself and my kids, and during this transformative period, I also embraced my true self. Despite knowing since childhood that I was gay, I finally decided to let go of societal expectations that had previously compelled me to conform and come out.
Now, seven years into my career, I am joyfully married to my wife of three years and proudly embrace my identity. I founded the Kansas City Metro LGBTQ+ Real Estate Alliance Chapter to enhance awareness and education in our industry.
In my leisure time, I enjoy traveling, CrossFit, bowling, exploring local coffee shops, and shopping at Under Armour.
We all face challenges, but would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Navigating coming out later in life, especially within a highly visible career, has presented its challenges.
I strive to maintain a positive demeanor and smile often, aware that some people have been conditioned to view the world differently. By embracing my true self, I hope to demonstrate that being gay does not define my morality.
We can hold differing views and still maintain respect for each other. Choosing to stand out rather than blend in has forced me to confront and reassess my own beliefs about how to engage with the world. I must continue standing up, even on the tough days, because it could potentially transform someone else’s life.
Thanks – so, what else should our readers know about MI Homes?
I empower clients throughout their real estate journey, whether they’re buying, selling, or investing. As an agent, I work according to your timeline, knowing exactly when to encourage you to take a step forward or when to wait.
I take pride in assisting individuals from diverse backgrounds, including those who never thought homeownership was within their reach. I also enjoy helping clients upgrade to their dream “forever homes” they once only imagined. A key part of my role involves educating clients about what to expect as our market continuously evolves.
Having dedicated seven years to real estate as my full-time career, I continuously study the market to ensure my clients make well-informed decisions. My goal extends beyond just guiding you to the closing table; I strive to build enduring relationships and celebrate with you as you embark on a new life chapter in your new home.
Even after the keys are handed over, I’m here to support you with any further needs you may have.
