Community Highlights: Meet Mattie Alaniz of MATTIE K

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mattie Alaniz.

Mattie, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Mattie K launched in Northwest Arkansas in 2022 the way a lot of small businesses do: one client, then a referral, then another. Before long, it had grown into a full marketing studio handling social media, branding, web design, content, and events. In 2025, I took the leap and expanded into Kansas City. I have always wanted to see what Mattie K could become in a bigger market. Now I work in both, and month after month, Kansas City is growing into exactly what I hoped it would be.

Moving here taught me the thing that shapes all of my work now: the tourist perspective. When you’re new somewhere, you notice everything. You notice the coffee shop with the perfect window light, the restaurant everyone talks about, the little details locals walk past every day without seeing. I’ve always loved seeing a place that way, and it’s exactly how I look at my clients’ businesses.

Most business owners are too close to their own brand to see what makes it special. They’re the locals. I get to come in as the tourist, the person who notices what’s worth photographing, what’s worth talking about, and what would make someone stop scrolling or book a ticket. Then I turn that into something cohesive: content, a website, a brand, or a full event, so the whole thing feels intentional instead of scattered.

That’s the thread through everything I do. I want people to feel the experience a brand is creating. Seeing it is one thing. Feeling it is what makes them remember it and come back.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
No road is completely smooth, and the biggest challenge for me has been earning trust in a new market. When businesses find out I’m not originally from Kansas City, there’s sometimes a hesitation, a question of whether I really understand the city and the people they’re trying to reach.

The truth is, I did the work long before I moved. I was already partnering with Kansas City clients on one-time projects, studying the market, and following the agencies and creatives here whose work I admired. I came in knowing how this city works and who these businesses are talking to.

What I’ve learned is that trust isn’t built by telling people you know the market. It’s built by showing them. Every project I complete here, every event and every campaign, makes the next conversation easier. And being newer to the city has turned into an advantage, because it’s exactly what lets me see a brand the way a first-time customer would.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about MATTIE K?
Mattie K is a Kansas City and Northwest Arkansas marketing and events studio that handles the full visual and experiential life of a business. That can include social media management, branding, web design, content photography, event planning, and much more.

We believe marketing shouldn’t feel like a chore. It should feel like a destination your customers never want to leave. We build brand experiences that go beyond the screen and create a lasting feeling of trust and ease that keeps people coming back.

Our goal is for every client to have one point of contact for all of it. We’re the studio that can plan your event from the first inquiry through the recap afterward, and also the studio that can manage your social media and take you through a complete rebrand. Whether it’s your online presence or a live event, every detail is intentional, immersive, and completely handled.

We do the work so you can soak in the moment.

Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
Never stop learning. Marketing changes constantly. Algorithms shift, platforms evolve, and what worked six months ago might not work today. The best thing you can do for your business and your clients is to stay curious and keep educating yourself, so you can adapt instead of falling behind.

Second, know your value, and protect it. So much of the work in this industry happens behind the scenes: the strategy, the research, the planning, the hours of editing that go into a single post. Clients usually only see the finished product, and it’s easy for all of that invisible work to go unrecognized, sometimes even by you!
