Today we’d like to introduce you to Lillian London.
Hi Lillian, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Being an entrepreneur was the last thing I expected myself to pursue as a career. I’d been a server/bar tender for about 12 years, dropped out of college, and didn’t really have a direction for my future. I knew I had a passion for helping others, but I wasn’t sure what that looked like for a long-term career.
With the support of my family and friends, I put myself out in the KC area as a solo cleaner, and the immediate support I received blew me away. I had no experience in marketing via social media, and had been lucky enough to receive all of my clientele by word-of-mouth alone.
Unfortunately, that momentum didn’t last, and I had to go back to serving tables in addition to cleaning homes. I was 2 years deep in to running my business and wasn’t sure how much longer I’d be doing so.
I decided to reach out to a friend who is also an entrepreneur, and they coached me on what to do next to elevate my business. I began an entire re-branding project to make this company officially feel like it was mine.
It’s now been 4 years of running London Cleaning Services, LLC, and now I’m regularly booked 3 months in advance.
The largest lesson I’ve learned, is that failures and struggles should be celebrated. They force you to choose between giving up, or fighting for something you built from the ground-up. I absolutely love what I do, and have met so many amazing individuals along the way.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I had no experience in marketing, or being an entrepreneur. I’ve been learning it all in real-time. Figuring out pricing, and scheduling was a lot of trial-and-error. Falling in to a slow season with no back-up plan forced me to get a second job.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
London Cleaning Services, LLC specializes in residential cleaning in KC, MO and surrounding areas. I offer deep cleans, maintenance cleans, bi-weekly cleans, monthly, etc. My appointment slots are very flexible and allow my clients to build their own schedule as-needed. I pride myself on not only meeting my client’s expectations, but exceeding them. I treat each job as if they are my family.
Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
I was born in Fairbanks, Alaska. Both of my parents were in the military, so we moved a lot. I was a pro at adapting and learned to be outgoing because of how often I had to change schools. As a kid, my report card always said “social butterfly.” While extra chatter put me in the hot seat frequently, it has been an amazing trait that has helped me excel as an entrepreneur. I loved playing soccer and basketball, but found I enjoyed marching band more than anything. I was on drumline in high-school, and took piano lessons on the side. Music was a large part of my life growing up.
