Born and raised in the vibrant streets of Queens, New York, Komal Kaur’s journey is a testament to resilience, determination, and the transformative power of storytelling. Her parents, immigrants from Punjab, India, fled genocide to seek a better life in the United States. Growing up in a low-income household within a racially diverse neighborhood, Komal faced challenges and had experiences that ignited her passion for advocacy and change.

In 2017, a move to Olathe, Kansas, marked a turning point in Komal’s life. The drastic change fueled her frustration and sadness, but she channeled these emotions into a relentless drive for justice and empowerment. Beginning advocacy at 14 years old, her early start in public service set the stage for her journey in public service.

Now, the visionary founder of Eye of An Immigrant, Komal is dedicated to elevating voices, funding pathways to citizenship, and fostering a welcoming community. Inspired by her parents’ immigration story and her own experiences as a daughter of immigrants, Komal’s mission is deeply personal and profoundly impactful.

Komal is also a college student majoring in political science with a concentration in international relations, and double minors in intelligence and national security studies and data science.

Her advocacy work includes Sikh awareness, championing youth involvement, and amplifying Gen Z’s voice in politics. Her hands-on experience in several political campaigns has honed her skills and insights.

As the founder and CEO of Komal Kaur Inc., a public speaking business, Komal Kaur’s story is one of transformation and empowerment. Through this journey, she aims to inspire and equip the next generation of leaders with the tools they need to create lasting change.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. As a daughter of immigrants, one of my early struggles was convincing my parents that stepping into the spotlight was not only okay but necessary for the impact I wanted to make. With cultural expectations and my parents’ protective instincts, it was challenging to fully embrace the opportunities that came my way.

Moving to Kansas was another difficult transition for me. The drastic change in environment, combined with the mental health challenges that came with being a young girl in a new place, made it hard to adjust. I’ve also struggled with time management and trying to balance everything on my plate—school, my non-profit, and now my public speaking business.

Being young has brought its own set of challenges; there were times when I had to work hard to make people believe in me and not let my age define or limit me. But these struggles have only fueled my determination to keep pushing forward.

My advice for those just starting out is to remember that your age does not limit you. Don’t let anyone tell you that you’re too young to make a difference or to pursue your dreams. You are worth so much more than your productivity—your value isn’t tied to how much you can do or how quickly you can achieve it.

One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned is the importance of “sabar,” which translates to patience in Punjabi. The universe is not in a hurry; we often are. It’s okay to take your time, to breathe, and to trust that everything will fall into place as long as you stay committed.

Don’t be afraid to ask for help. Building a solid network of people you can trust and rely on is crucial. Surround yourself with those who believe in you, who challenge you, and who can offer guidance along the way.

Lastly, never underestimate the power of passion. Passion is what drives you through the tough times and keeps you focused on your goals. It’s the fire that fuels your journey, so keep it burning bright.
