Community Highlights: Meet Kevin Oldham of Diffactory

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kevin Oldham.

Hi Kevin, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Simply put, we fix expensive marketing problems for our clients. When I was the CMO of a global company, I was promised the world by outside marketing companies. Money invested did not produce the promised results. Retainers paid turned into what felt like ransom payments. Deadlines were missed. Enough was enough. And so Diffactory was born in our basement in 2015. Unlike our competition, we’ve been in the trenches of starting, operating and growing many companies. We’ve experienced firsthand the expensive problems our clients face. We, too, have been frustrated with the marketing industry.

The silver lining? We now get to use our unique insights to help companies build and retain more valuable customer relationships. With a vision deeply rooted in our values, we provide the tools to build a real-life version of the dreams our customers have for their companies.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
Entrepreneurship is never a smooth road. We get to experience the highest of highs and the lowest of lows. We have encountered a few speedbumps in our six years, but as I say, we have never crashed the plane… nor do we intend to. By nature, we are problem solvers, which is helpful.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Why Diffactory? We put skin in the game. Because we’ve built, operated, and grown multiple companies. This means we’ve seen the expensive problems businesses face. Like the marketing bells and whistles, we’re sold that amount to nothing more than fancy wastes of money. The missed deadlines. The investing hard-earned profits into impossible-to-see results. We won’t go on. (Too frustrating.) But… and there is a but… Hindsight can teach us a lot. And insight? Well, that’s even more valuable. Like better-than-perfect-vision valuable. Because the things we learned through our time in your shoes means we’ve seen what needs to be done to find the best solutions for your business. Like forming a partnership with you. So that you can build and retain more sustainable relationships with your customers.

That’s what drives revenue. That’s what reduces risk. That’s what makes us Diffactory. Diffactory’s investment portfolio is made up of brands we have acquired or launched: The Smoothie Shop & Supplements, S’UPP Supplement Company, SmartAgentLife, MedSpaLife, RocketHub (deploying in August 2021).

These are the companies we test marketing strategies on before we recommend strategies to clients.

If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
I was (and still am) a skater. My mom owned a skateboard shop in our hometown and I fell in love with the sport. Being a skater allowed me to roam the city and meet new people. I really enjoyed that aspect as well as the inclusiveness of skate culture. I was also busy spinning up new businesses as a kid. My most lucrative was collecting hubcaps that fell off of cars and selling them to a used tire and wheel store.
