Community Highlights: Meet Kelly Rosch of Puptivism

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kelly Rosch.

Hi Kelly, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Our goal with is to change the world one collar. one walk. one conversation at a time. Our four legged friends are much better at breaking down social barriers than we are as humans, and the collars are a natural way to start a conversation that otherwise may not have happened. We didn’t want to stop there ,though, so 10% of all of our collars give back to non-profit organizations that are making a difference in people’s lives everyday.

As a company, we started selling collars in late 2020, but the concept actually came about a few months earlier after the death of George Floyd. After his death I went to a socially distant, peaceful protest in Overland Park, KS that was both pet and kid friendly. One person had their dog with them and people would stop to pet the dog starting most of our conversations with individuals. I wanted to create a way to replicate that on an ongoing basis to keep the conversation going about the importance of equality, in all senses of the word. When I searched the market there were no collars boldly stating what causes they supported. I figured if other companies weren’t going to make a difference than I would… and thus Puptivism was born.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The road has hardly been smooth. We started as a company in the middle of the pandemic when vendor events and stores were closed, which are our primary sales channels. In addition to that we had some very trying times as a family that were taking priority over my work. The first 6 months were exceptionally difficult and I wasn’t sure if my dream would become a reality. Perseverance nevertheless prevailed, and we have had significant growth this summer. We are excited to continue making a difference in Kansas City, and hopefully someday Globally.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
We specialize in high-quality dog collars, but more importantly we like to believe we specialize in helping people have difficult and sometimes awkward conversations with ease. Let’s be honest, when you’re walking your dog no one says hi to you, but they always ask to pet your dog and talk to your dog. while petting your dog, when someone mentions the collar it creates the perfect environment for people to come together and have discussions that impact how we operate as a society. A key part of creating this environment is the mindset that people are in; when humans pet a dog we release serotonin and dopamine (feel good chemicals), which puts us at ease when having these challenging discussions.

Not only do our clients help give back to the world every time they have a conversation about equality, but they also give back when purchasing the collar. 10% of every sale is donated back to a charity that has “boots on the ground” making a difference in the lives of those who need it most.

When wearing our collar your pet truly becomes Human’s Best Friend. With Puptivism, Activism has Found a Whole New Breed.

In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
The Pet Industry continues to grow, and we are hopeful that the love for our furry friends becomes even deeper. We are excited to share that because of the early success we’ve had we are expanding from just having Collars for a Cause to also having Leads with a Purpose.
