Today we’d like to introduce you to Jennie.
Hi Jennie, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Revival started as something much more personal than a business; it was rooted in a season of rebuilding and rediscovery in my own life.
I actually began my career in fashion in my hometown of Lexington, Missouri, working every weekend of high school at a local boutique when I wasn’t playing sports. After graduating, I attended the University of Central Missouri with the intention of becoming a teacher. However, while in college, I found another locally owned boutique in Warrensburg and began working there. It was in that environment that I realized I could make a career out of retail, which led me to transition into the Fashion program.
After college, I stepped fully into the world of fashion retail and lived it for a time. But as I began building both my career and my family, I quickly realized just how demanding it was to run a thriving retail business. Around the time I had just delivered my oldest son, I found myself working tirelessly, around the clock, and it became clear that I didn’t have the time or space to be the kind of mom I wanted to be. That realization led me to make a difficult but intentional decision to step away from that path and pursue a career that would allow me to focus more on my family. That journey ultimately led me into healthcare, where I’ve built a fulfilling career, but the creative and entrepreneurial part of me never really went away.
In 2023, I found myself craving the opportunity to return to retail, but this time with a different perspective. I didn’t just want to build a business, I wanted to build something that aligned with my life, my values, and my priorities. That’s when Revival Clothing & Decor was born. What began as an idea for a small online boutique quickly became something more meaningful. I wanted to create an experience for women in our community, a place where women could walk in and feel confident, encouraged, and comfortable being exactly who they are. Revival is equal parts style, storytelling, and community.
In the early days, it was a lot of trial and error, such as learning inventory, navigating buying, building a brand, and balancing it all alongside my full-time role and raising three boys. I stayed up until 1 am most nights to support the growth of the business. But what kept me going was the community’s response. Women showed up not just to shop, but to connect. Events, conversations, and relationships became just as important as the products on the racks.
Since then, Revival has continued to grow and evolve in ways I could have only hoped for. We started with a booth inside a local business that supported entrepreneurs, and a year later, took the leap into our own standalone brick-and-mortar. Now, just one year after that, we are getting ready to move into a space that is more than double our current footprint, and we are so excited to see what this next chapter brings. And of course, this growth would not be possible without the incredible people behind Revival. Our store manager, Erin, keeps everything running smoothly while I continue to work full-time away from the store. Our assistant manager, Jey, is the creative mind behind so many of our visuals and has become a familiar face across our social media platforms.
Along the way, we’ve hosted events, partnered with other local businesses, supported meaningful causes, and created moments that go far beyond retail. Being recognized as a “Best of the ’Burg” business shortly after opening was incredibly humbling, but the most rewarding part has been seeing the space become one where women feel seen, supported, and empowered.
Today, Revival reflects so much of who I am: a balance of ambition and intention, creativity and structure, business and family. If I had to wrap it all up into one sentence, I would say this: It’s not just a boutique; it’s a reflection of growth, resilience, and coming back to something you love on your own terms.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
For the most part, it’s been a really great journey. However, like any small business, it hasn’t been without its challenges.
One of the biggest hurdles we’ve faced is the shift in consumer expectations driven by fast-fashion retailers like Shein and Temu. Those platforms have significantly changed how people view pricing, turnaround time, and even the value of clothing. Boutique shopping is about quality, intentional buying, and a more personal experience, but it can be hard to compete with ultra-low prices and instant accessibility. A big part of our job has been helping customers understand the difference of why it matters to shop small, support local, and invest in pieces that are curated with purpose.
Being in a military community also brings a unique layer of unpredictability. Government shutdowns or financial uncertainty can directly impact household income, which in turn affects spending habits. We feel that in real time and it requires us to stay flexible and understanding of what our customers are navigating.
On top of that, the overall cost of living has increased significantly over the past few years. We’ve definitely noticed a shift in how people are spending, and that’s something we’ve had to adapt to as a business. It’s pushed us to be more creative, more strategic, and really thoughtful about what we bring into the store.
At the end of the day, those challenges have also helped shape Revival into what it is today. They’ve made us more resilient, more connected to our customers, and more focused on creating value beyond just the product. It’s not always easy, but it’s absolutely worth it.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Revival Clothing & Decor is a women’s boutique offering thoughtfully curated clothing, gifts, accessories, books, records, and a mix of both vintage and new home décor—but what we really provide is an experience.
We specialize in pieces that are wearable, versatile, and designed for real life. Our clothing is intentionally inclusive, offering women’s sizes from small through 4X, because we believe every woman deserves to feel confident and represented. Beyond clothing, we also carry unique gifts, books, vinyl records, and one-of-a-kind décor pieces that help customers bring personality and warmth into their homes.
One of the most personal aspects of our brand is our custom, hand-drawn designs. These pieces are created with intention and often reflect the heart behind Revival: community, resilience, and a little bit of fun. It allows us to offer something truly unique that you won’t find anywhere else. For example, I hand-drew a map of Warrenburg in 2024, showcasing my favorite places in our community, which still continues to be a top seller. I am not an artist, and the map has its flaws, which I believe is why it’s been so widely accepted.
What truly sets Revival apart is the environment we’ve created. It’s not just about shopping, it’s about how you feel when you walk through the door. We’ve worked hard to build a space where women feel welcomed, seen, and supported. Whether it’s through in-store events, collaborations with other local businesses, or simply taking the time to get to know our customers, we’ve created something that feels more like a community than a store. We’re also incredibly passionate about supporting other small businesses and giving back whenever we can. From hosting events to partnering with local makers and organizations, we believe strongly in creating a ripple effect because when one small business succeeds, it lifts others up, too.
Brand-wise, what I’m most proud of is that Revival feels authentic. At the end of the day, I want readers to know that Revival is more than a boutique. It’s a place where you can show up exactly as you are, find pieces you love, and leave feeling just a little more confident than when you walked in.
Alright so before we go can you talk to us a bit about how people can work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
There are so many ways to connect with and support Revival! The easiest way to stay connected is through social media. You can find us on Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok, where we share new arrivals, styling ideas, behind-the-scenes moments, and upcoming events. Engaging with our content—liking, sharing, commenting—goes a long way in helping small businesses grow.
Of course, shopping with us is another incredible way to support. You can shop online for convenience or visit us in-store for the full Revival experience.
We also love collaborating. Whether it’s partnering on events, working with other local businesses, or featuring makers and creatives, we’re always open to ideas that align with our mission and values. If someone has an idea or wants to work together, I always encourage them to simply reach out.
At the end of the day, support doesn’t always have to be a purchase. Telling a friend, bringing someone new into the store, or just continuing to show up and be part of the community we’re building—that’s what keeps Revival going.
