Today we’d like to introduce you to Jamie Hoffman.
Hi Jamie, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
So far it’s been a pretty smooth road! There are many things we’ve had to learn, long days and nights, and hiccups; but so far with awesome support from our family, friends, my boyfriend, and some pretty amazing customers – everything has been great!
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
Legacy Fabrics is an apparel fabrics store that specializes in fabrics that are used to make clothing. We have many high quality silks, wools, linens, and cottons, as well as your everyday knits for t-shirts and leggings, denims, prom/formal fabrics, and lingerie supplies. We also sell patterns for clothes which includes women’s, men’s, teen’s, and kid’s styles. We also have a wide range of sewing supplies and tools from thread, needles, scissors, and pins, to hooks and eyes, bag making hardware, elastics, boning, binding, horsehair, and buttons.
What sets us apart from many fabric stores around is not just that we carry fabrics used for fashion, but we try to source as much of what we can as deadstock or made in the USA. About 90% of the fabrics that we carry are leftover remnants from the fashion industry – which means we have access to some really unique styles, and some from brands you might recognize like J Crew, Ralph Lauren, and Carhartt. We have many organic knits and tulles that are made in the USA, and even several lines of fabric that are printed and designed right here in North Kansas City!
We also have a wide range of classes that help budding sewists to increase their skills, and experienced sewists challenge them. Some of our most popular classes include our Fit Classes taught by a Palmer/Pletsch Instructor, custom Bra Sewing Courses taught by the local Gigi’s Bra Supply, as well as our basic classes like How to Sew a Zipper and Serging 101.
We are really proud to be supporting as many other local and small businesses as possible, and the emphasis we put on supporting our local community. We host several fabric and pattern swaps throughout the year so that sewists can unload and freshen up their stashes, as well as host a local meet up every first Saturday of the month. We also offer a 15% discount to any sewists or designer under the age of 25. We want to help support youth and students in achieving their dreams as much as possible and help them grow in this life-long skill.
We also offer special ordering services. Whether you have an exact shade of green to match for a mother of the bride dress, an add-on lace to match your wedding dress, or as a fashion designer looking for a specific fabric for their next fashion line. We have direct access to enough deadstock warehouses that we are pretty good at finding the exact fabrics you are looking for!
Are there any books, apps, podcasts or blogs that help you do your best?
