Community Highlights: Meet Jamie Duncan of Urban Trends

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jamie Duncan.

Hi Jamie, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
My background is in business to business sales, but I have always had a passion for fashion and worked retail while in high school and college. In 2017 was approached to join other boutiques in a collective. It was a great way to get ownership experience without committing to a brick and morter. It didn’t take long before I knew this was my calling and decided to open my own store.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The first couple of years were a lot of work, but the hard work paid off and I was profitable the first year. Covid was definately a challenge. We had to get creative and increase social media, offer delivery and curbside pick up. It was tough, but we made it through.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Urban Trends?
We are a womens boutique offering womens clothing, accessories and gifts. We offer on trend clothing with effortless syle.
Customers come to us because its a warm and inviting environment to shop. We have a lot of regulars, and many I have befriended. We share stories and pictures of our families (and dogs, ha). Not everyone loves to shop, and thats where we excel. We love helping customers find the perfect outfit that makes them look good and feel good. We listen to our customers and try to make it a fun shopping experience.

How do you think about luck?
I was lucky that a couple of the other locations I was looking at fell through! As they say, everything happens for a reason. I was sceptical about my current location in the beginning, but it turned out to be the best!
