Today we’d like to introduce you to Grant Lewton.
Hi Grant, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I grew up in southwest Missouri in a rural community called Wheatland before going to college at University of Missouri in Columbia. After graduating college, I was left with joining many friends I had made in St. Louis or move to Kansas City.
Luckily, I chose the unknown of Kansas City. Over the last decade, KC has served as a home base as I traveled across the country. First, with a large accounting firm and then with a regional asset management firm.
In my travels, I met my now wife. She grew up in Indonesia, moved to the United States for college, and decided to stay. Covid caused her to have a career change, which resulted in us meeting. Since 2021, we have settled to Kansas City full time.
Currently, my wife operates a local asset/real estate management company, and I spend time spread across a variety of business ventures. My current ventures include real estate acquisitions and management, commercial and multifamily construction, luxury renovations, fire/water/mold restoration, and handyman home services.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has certainly not been smooth, but I have come to realize how blessed and lucky my road to where I am today has been.
As many college graduates likely do, I struggled with reconciling the career and degree I chose, did not align with what I could stomach doing most everyday of my working life. Six months into my post-college “fancy” corporate job, I understood I was miserable every weekday and dreaded Monday all weekend.
When I finally made the break from that first job, I spent 6 months remodeling a home I had purchased on a life reset. I interviewed and was offered other opportunities in accounting, but just couldn’t in good conscience accept any of those positions. I knew I needed to pivot and entirely change career paths.
I found my way to real estate full time, through the acquisition and management of commercial real estate. This change is what resulted in many of the unbelievably positive relationships and opportunities which have flooded my life, included meeting my wife.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
The business I investment the most time and effort into over the past few years, is our luxury home renovation company. BSD Homes serves the KC metro and majoritively Johnson County.
We specialize in kitchen, bathroom and basement renovations. What we are known for and what sets us apart from others is one in the same, delivering a luxury, high quality product at a price which provides immense value for our customers.
While our portfolio of work speaks for itself, what I hope others know about our company is, we also believe in investing in our local communities. One of our most cherished philanthropic relationships is Friendship Circle of Kansas City.
Friendship Circle’s mission is to use the magic of friendship to create a community where people with disabilities are accepted, included, and celebrated. The organization does this through tailored group settings including activities such as music, arts and crafts, sensory stimulation, dance, and peer to peer fun.
Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
Its likely you will fail along the way, and that is okay. Most important is when you fall, you get back up and push yourself to find where and who you belong with.
