Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
As a small businessman of color I initially found it difficult to obtain the jobs that would bring me substantial profit and the financing needed to complete those projects. My Mom always told us where there is a will there is a way. This philosophy helped me overcome many challenges. I was able to obtain funds from friends and family; devised a plan to accept payments which would assist me in getting the materials needed for the projects I was undertaking. This continued for about a year at which time my business became successful.

Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
Around the age of 8 years, I was exposed to an electrician who was doing work in our home and I was fascinated by the wires and gadgets he was using. After observing him I decided this was the field i wanted to aspire to. I was hooked. I continued learning at a pace that sometime frustrated my mother such as the time I disassembled her brand new box fan and used the parts to create a hardwired control for our TV. However I did not receive the reaction I thought I deserved for my masterpiece. My mom gave me spanking for tearing up her new fan. During my high school years grades eleven and twelve I attended a class called Electrical Construction and Maintenance. In this class I was taught how to do basic electrical , troubleshooting and repairs. Upon graduation I was hired by the City of Kansas City Water Dept. and trained as an electrician. While working for the City I continued learning and improving my skills in an industrial environment.

The next rung on my journey I apprenticed with Oscar Electric and it was here under the guidance of Oscar Gibson the owner I pursued my Master Electrician License.
