Today we’d like to introduce you to Erica Resseguie.
Hi Erica, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I grew up on a 500-cow dairy farm, where I learned the value of hard work early. Even though farming shaped my childhood, I went off to college thinking I’d never return to it. That’s where I met my husband. We got married shortly after and welcomed our first child, and that’s when everything changed.
I started paying attention to what was actually in our food. I saw how many kids in our country were struggling with their health, and I didn’t want that for mine. That’s what sparked my desire to raise our own food and know exactly how it was produced.
My husband grew up in the city, but he always dreamed of owning his own cattle herd. With his dream and my desire to provide real, healthy food for our family, we seized the opportunity to start a small cattle operation when we bought land in Oklahoma. While he worked full-time as a superintendent building a water treatment plant, we grew our herd from 10 to 30 in just three years. At the time, we were finishing beef for our own freezer and selling the extra steers at the sale barn.
In 2024, my husband changed jobs and we relocated to the Kansas City area. Anyone who has ever moved a farm knows how tough that is—months of selling, packing, hauling, and making hard decisions. We had to sell most of our cattle, but the move also opened our eyes. Being so close to a major city gave us the opportunity to sell premium pasture-raised meats directly to families who wanted healthier options just like we did.
So while we were packing to move, we were also learning everything we could about direct-to-consumer farming, building a website, and planning a new business—oh, and I was pregnant with our fourth child during all of this. We seem to do big things all at once. But by the grace of God, we made the move, launched our business, and welcomed another healthy baby girl.
This past year, we’ve worked hard to market our beef, refine our rotational grazing techniques, and build new infrastructure from scratch. We’ve started a brand-new herd and are committed to regenerative practices that improve the land we’ve been trusted with.
All of the hard work—the long days, the rebuilding, the learning—feels worth it when customers tell us how grateful they are to have a local farm providing healthy, delicious meat for their family. That’s what keeps us going.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
There have definitely been challenges over the years—moving a farm being one of the biggest. But even before that, our very first year of owning cattle taught us some hard lessons.
Like many new livestock owners, we didn’t have our catch system set up before calving season. One heifer in particular was struggling to give birth, and we quickly realized how unprepared we were. We tried to improvise with gates, but she wasn’t tame at all and ended up running all over the field. Thankfully, our new corral system happened to be delivered later that same day. Once we got it assembled, we were finally able to catch her and assist with the birth.
We were out there until nearly 3 a.m., exhausted but determined—and we did manage to deliver the calf. That experience taught us the importance of having proper infrastructure in place before animals need it.
We also faced health issues with several calves that year, despite giving them good nutrition. Because we had purchased the cows right before they calved, we learned firsthand how critical it is to buy healthy animals with strong genetics. Good genetics reduce calving problems, improve mothering ability, and prevent a lot of unnecessary stress—for both the animals and the farmers.
Looking back, those early challenges helped shape how we manage our herd today. They pushed us to become more prepared, more knowledgeable, and more intentional with every decision we make.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
At Resseguie Ranch, we raise premium pasture-raised beef—and soon chicken—using regenerative practices that prioritize soil health, animal welfare, and nutrient-dense food. Our mission is simple: to provide families with clean, traceable, truly local meat they can feel good feeding their children.
What we’re most known for is how hands-on and intentional our entire process is. Our cattle graze on fresh pasture and are carefully managed through every stage of life. Our chickens are pasture-raised and farm-butchered right here on the ranch, so every bird is handled humanely from start to finish. Whether it’s beef or chicken, every animal is either raised by our family or sourced from trusted farms that share our standards. This means our customers can always trust the quality, transparency, and care behind the meat they buy from us.
What sets us apart is that we’re not just selling meat—we’re building trust. Our customers know their farmer, know how their food was raised, and know that every decision we make is guided by our commitment to health, stewardship, and integrity. Being close to Kansas City also allows us to offer something rare: true farm-to-family meats that come directly from a small, local operation rather than a large supply chain.
Brand-wise, we’re proud to stand for honesty, quality, and connection. Our brand reflects who we are as a family—hardworking, faith-driven, and passionate about raising food the right way. We want readers to know that when they buy from us, they’re not just purchasing beef. They’re supporting regenerative agriculture, healthier land, and a family business that genuinely cares about their wellbeing.
Whether someone is looking for nutrient-dense beef, wants to know their farmer, or simply values clean food that tastes incredible, we’re here to serve families who want better options for their table.
How do you think about happiness?
What makes me happiest is seeing the animals God has entrusted to us thriving—healthy, happy, and cared for the way He intended. There’s something so fulfilling about working with my family on the land, putting in the hard work day after day, and seeing our goals come to life. Whether it’s a new pasture rotation going perfectly, a successful calving season, or chickens roaming freely and content on pasture, those moments remind me why we do what we do. It’s a combination of stewardship, family, and purpose—watching the results of intentional work unfold and knowing we’re providing something truly good for others brings me joy every day.
