Hi Christopher, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Chris Music is no stranger to the roofing game. Before starting Ranger Roofing & Exteriors, Chris served as a property adjuster and corporate trainer for one of the countries largest insurance carriers for years.

While working in insurance, he discovered significant gaps between a contractor’s understanding of insurance claims and what insurance companies needed from contractors to approve bids. This lack of knowledge and communication lead to increased waiting times and decreased approvals. Chris thought that if there were a way to educate contractors on insurance claims, he could help homeowners get the service they needed at a quicker rate.

After consulting with other roofers who left the insurance industry, Chris naturally fell into roofing. He realized he could best serve his community by providing a much-needed service and bridging the gap between contractors and insurance carriers. Although Ranger Roofing & Exteriors services all forms of roof replacements, not just insurance claims, his experience in insurance is what drove him to forge his own roofing company in Kansas City.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
“When you’re doing what you’re meant to be doing, things seem to come easier,” Chris shared when asked about the hill he’s climbed starting his own roofing company.

“Kansas City is saturated with roofers, and when you don’t have the marketing dollars to spend on ads like they do, you have to work a little harder,” he shared.

However, Chris’ partner in business and life, Rebecca, has spent the past decade learning and mastering marketing in the trades industry. They feel their combined industry expertise boosted them above most entrepreneurs getting started.

“We’re not going to be the big dogs overnight. Nor is that what we necessarily want in the future,” Rebecca shared. “We’re focusing on our immediate area, neighbors, and community. We’ve seen a lot of door knockers taking advantage of folks, so our initial strategy is to take care of the people right in our backyard.”
