Community Highlights: Meet Charzelle David of Forks N Chill

Today we’d like to introduce you to Charzelle David. 

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Quarantine hit all of us hard. With my family being in Oklahoma, it was already difficult for us to get together, quarantine made that even harder. One day when I was visiting my family, my mom and I were reminiscing about picnics we used to have on the beach when I was younger. Being born and raised in Hawaii, outdoor get-togethers were a way of life. Talking about that brought back so many fond memories. It was from that moment on, that I knew I wanted to recreate that memory of having fun with friends and family. The challenge of having a get-together in the midst of a global pandemic seemed almost impossible. Then I realized that outdoor picnics are the perfect solution. Thus, Forks N Chill was born! 

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Being a full-time nursing student, holding down two part-time jobs, and deciding to become an entrepreneur definitely had its set of difficulties. Between classes, studying, labs, night shifts, and market research, I found that I didn’t have time for very much else. 

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Forks N Chill is a luxury picnic experience based out of Kansas City. Providing our services around the metro, we offer picnics specifically tailored towards every special event and occasion. From first dates to proposals, we handle all the details. Furbabies included, Forks N Chill is home to Kansas City’s first luxury ‘Pupnic’, a picnic with your pup(s)! Forks N Chill is all about creating memories. We pride ourselves in making your dream picnic, a reality. 

What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
My consistency and ability to multitask have been vital to my success. Although not a characteristic but a notable mention, I definitely would not be where I am without the help of my mom. An entrepreneur herself, my mom is a realtor working with 5 kids at home, including a newborn! My mom is an inspiration. Rising from the depths of an ugly divorce, her drive is what kept her going. She didn’t let anything bring her down or stand in her way. That very drive is what fuels me to succeed. Not just for me, but for her.
