Community Highlights: Meet Ant Avery AKA ANTIMOSITY of Jiant Entertainamet and The Kansas Skateboarding Foundation

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ant Avery AKA ANTIMOSITY.

Ant Avery

Hi, Ant Avery. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I was raised in Wichita, Kansas, and adopted by my grandparents. I was raised not wanting anything. My life story began when I was wrongfully convicted of a major crime at 17 and incarcerated. It was there that I vowed to educate myself, find a voice, and find a way to create a business from the things I’m passionate about. Because I know the only reason I was incarcerated was because I was young, uneducated, and didn’t know how to communicate. I was blessed to have the parents that I did have. My biological mother was always in my life, but my grandmother pushed me to do things for myself in business and in life. Once released from prison after 5 years, I attended Wichita State University and found a drive and a passion for Activism and a voice through studying communications and ethnic studies.

Alright, let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what challenges have you had to overcome?
It has not been a smooth road, but I feel very blessed and very fortunate to still be in the entertainment and skateboarding industry after some things life has thrown at me. But I don’t believe in taking an L; I have lost tens of thousands of dollars on events over the past few years, but I don’t consider it an L or a loss; it’s only a loss if you don’t learn anything.

Thanks – So, what else should our readers know about Jiant Entertainment and The Kansas Skateboarding Foundation?
JIANT Entertainment was founded by my wife Jill Avery and myself to give us a home base to release everything for our ANTIMOSITY BRAND, and a platform to coordinate and hold our events in what we felt was a stale market when it came to unique events that we considered nich.

OUR MISSION
The Kansas skateboarding foundation works for the public to propel youth crime prevention and mental health relief by creating strategies and opportunities to learn skills and life experience through skateboarding and immersion in the culture of skateboarding.

OUR VISION
To educate, guide and empower the community to be active in the lives of children who are underprivileged, at-risk or have special needs to promote physical and mental health through fostering and sustaining the positive values inherent to skateboarding.

What do you like and dislike about the city?
I love the city, the history, the night life; I’m a huge Chiefs fan; I mean, there are so many hidden gems. In addition to all that, I love anywhere that has a great music and skateboarding scene like KC has to offer.
