Community Highlights: Meet Amanda Allison of Countryside Veterinary Clinic

Today we’d like to introduce you to Amanda Allison.

Hi Amanda, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Countryside Veterinary Clinic has been part of the community for over 40 years serving the needs of our clients and patients both during hours and after hours.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
We serve in a rural community. We help people of all financial backgrounds and animals of all species. One of the biggest challenges I face is work/life balance and burnout. It is hard to find veterinarians who want to do a true mixed animal practice or who want to do after hours emergencies. In the last few years, fewer rural practices are doing after hours emergencies and the amount of emergency calls are at times overwhelming. Compassion fatigue combined with mental fatigue is real. Finding the balance and being able to maintain that balance long term is hard.

As you know, we’re big fans of Countryside Veterinary Clinic. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Our clinic is a mixed animal practice that proudly serves our rural community. We offer general surgery, urgent care and wellness services. We focus on client education and communication and we take pride in offering fear free services for our patients. We are one of the few rural practices that still offer after hours emergency services in our area.

Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
I enjoy spending quiet time with my family and my dogs and I love being outside. The beach is my special place where I can let go of grief and sadness and find peace. At work, happiness is meeting a new puppy or kitten and being part of its life as it grows and matures into an adult. Happiness is seeing the love that the family has for the little ball of fluff or seeing the elderly client whose only friend is a wagging tail finding love in the eyes of their best friend. Happiness is knowing that you made a difference not only for the pet but also for the family when their sick animal finally goes home. Seeing the joy in their face when they pick up their pet from a surgery and knowing that I had a small part in them going home safely. What brings me true joy in life, is knowing that I made even a small difference for each person or pet.
