Today we’d like to introduce you to Thomas And Macey Robinson.
Thomas and Macey, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Thomas’s journey in construction began hands-on, learning each trade through real experience — from working with sheet rockers to joining framing crews and taking on remodels during evenings and weekends. Over time, he expanded into building homes on his own, gaining a deep understanding of what it takes to bring a project from an idea to a finished space.
In 2009, he started his first remodel company, focusing on full remodels, framing, and finishing out custom homes. Later, when we moved to Colorado, he launched another successful remodel company there, earning a strong reputation and steady growth. When we eventually relocated to Missouri for my career at the time, Thomas rebuilt once again, growing a business with the same dedication, craftsmanship, and passion he has always carried.
At that point, I stepped away from my career with the intention of returning to my field and starting a new company of my own. In that in-between space, I temporarily stepped in to help Thomas as he was expanding. But what began as a short-term plan quickly shifted — I realized how much I enjoyed the work, the clients, and the impact we were making. Our strengths complemented each other seamlessly: Thomas brought decades of construction expertise, and I brought leadership, organization, and the vision to help everything come together.
Before long, it became clear that this wasn’t temporary at all — it was the start of a shared passion and a family-run business we were meant to build together.
Today, we run the company side-by-side. We’ve expanded our team, grown our capabilities, and returned to one of Thomas’s greatest passions: custom new builds. We now build custom homes and barndominiums, while continuing to offer decks, additions, and residential remodels. Our business has evolved, but our commitment remains the same — exceptional craftsmanship, intentional design, and a relationship-centered approach to every project.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Like any business, our journey hasn’t been without challenges. Starting over in new locations multiple times meant rebuilding client bases, teams, and processes from scratch. Early on, another challenge was learning to work together — Thomas and I had never run a business together before. Navigating the differences between wife/husband mode and business partner mode was a new experience, and we quickly realized each role has its own lane. We’ve had to stretch and grow our communication in ways we never had to before, learning how to make decisions, solve problems, and lead as a team without letting our personal dynamic get in the way.
Of course, the construction industry itself can be unpredictable, with supply issues, weather delays, and the occasional unexpected obstacle on a project. But those challenges became opportunities to learn and grow. Each hurdle strengthened our problem-solving skills, reinforced our commitment to craftsmanship, and ultimately helped us build a team and business that can handle anything. Looking back, the struggles weren’t setbacks — they were stepping stones that shaped the company we run today.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
We specialize in residential remodels and custom builds, creating spaces that are both functional and beautiful. From decks and additions to full home remodels, custom homes, and barndominiums, we focus on bringing each client’s vision to life with precision, creativity, and attention to detail.
Every project is a partnership, and our clients help shape not only their homes but also our family’s future. To us, this is personal, and we deeply appreciate the trust our clients place in us with their personal spaces.
What sets us apart is our approach as a family-run small business. We care about every detail, every decision, and every client experience because we know the impact extends beyond the project itself. Our combined skills — Thomas’s hands-on construction expertise and my focus on keeping everything organized and aligned — allow us to manage projects efficiently while providing a personal, tailored experience that truly reflects each client’s needs and style.
What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
What we like best about the city
We love how welcoming and community-oriented the city is. There’s a strong sense of connection here — neighbors genuinely care about one another, local businesses support each other, and it’s a place where families can grow and thrive. We also love having so many amazing sports teams to cheer on, especially KC Current, the women’s soccer team! It’s exciting to be part of a city with that kind of energy and community pride.
What we like least about the city
If we had to choose something, it would be the occasional challenge with growth and traffic. As more people discover how wonderful the city is, managing development while maintaining the community feel can be tricky. But overall, the positives far outweigh the negatives, and we’re proud to call it home and grow our business here.
