Check Out Terrell Ford’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Terrell Ford.

Hi Terrell, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I started barbering in 2007 and I immediately knew that I wanted to open a barber school. I was fascinated by the possibility of being able to help young men and women begin their journey into the barbering profession. My wife (Kannice Ford) and I opened our first shop in 2013 and we opened the school in 2017. We opened in March 2017 with 5 students. We now have a continuous enrollment of 50 students.

Our school, Klassic Transformations Barber Academy was founded on the principal philosophy of meeting students where they are in their journey of life and teaching them life skills as well as barbering skills. Our company mission statement is: Create. Inspire. Evolve. That encompasses what we try to do: Allow students to explore their creative side, inspire them to be better people, and hopefully they evolve and grow during their time here.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The road always has curves and challenges. To say that our road from 2007 to now has been challenging would be an understatement. We have dealt with personal struggles that have included everything from death of family members, incarceration, and financial struggles. We have seen it all. Our faith was tested but, overall our strong belief in God and a willingness to grind has brought us through those situations. We are not smarter or more talented than anyone, but we believe that hard work and internal motivation will overcome most situations.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
We specialize in teaching students how to cut all types of hair. The aspect of our business that I’m most proud of is that we teach people how to become successful business people. Our school is very intentional in allocating a good amount of time to teaching the business of barbering. We take pride in teaching our students various aspects of client acquisition and client retention, which is really the secret sauce of being a successful barber.

So, before we go, how can our readers or others connect or collaborate with you? How can they support you?
We love collaboration. If there is anyone that sees our story and is inspired to work with, collaborate with, or support us please do not hesitate to reach out to us. One aspect of our school that we would love to collaborate with more people would be our community service outreach.

Right now, we do 3 to 4 events per year such as free back-to-school haircuts, etc…Our biggest event is in December, it is called the KTBA 24 hour Cut-a-thon. We cut hair for 24 hours for toy and monetary donations. In the past, we have worked with United Inner City Services and the Hickman Mills Empowerment Center. We would love to grow that event.
