Today we’d like to introduce you to Tee Christian.
Hi Tee, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
My journey into the beauty industry truly began in childhood. As a little girl, I was always fascinated with hair — experimenting on my dolls and recreating trending styles using yarn, beads, and anything I could get my hands on. What started as play quickly turned into passion when I began braiding my dad’s hair. Over time, my skills improved — my grip became stronger, my parts became cleaner, and my creativity expanded beyond braiding into a variety of styles.
Throughout middle school and high school, I became known for doing my classmates’ hair, often working on multiple people from my own home. Although I recognized that I had talent, I initially planned to pursue a career in nursing and entered school for the medical field. However, during a pivotal season in my life, my path shifted. I discovered a local cosmetology school along a bus route I could access while working two jobs and without reliable transportation. I enrolled almost immediately, trusting my instincts and my faith that this opportunity was meant for me.
While attending cosmetology school, I developed a deep appreciation for healthy hair care, technical skill, and the science behind beauty. What I once considered a hobby evolved into a true calling. After graduating, I began consistently sharing my work, building my clientele, and embracing the beauty industry as my profession.
Today, nearly nine years later, I am proud to have built a career centered on healthy hair, creativity, and empowering women through beauty. Looking back, it truly feels like hair chose me — and I’m grateful every day that I followed the path that was placed before me.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
No — it definitely has not always been a smooth road. One of the biggest challenges was transitioning from cosmetology school into the salon environment. In school, clients come in naturally, but once you graduate, you quickly realize that you have to build your own name and attract your own clientele. There were many days early on where I had no clients at all. Instead of becoming discouraged, I used that time to study healthy hair care, continue learning, consistently post on social media, and actively promote myself through networking and business cards.
Immediately after graduating, I made the bold decision to pursue the beauty industry full time without taking on a second job. Financially and mentally, that was one of the hardest seasons because building a steady clientele takes time. There were slow periods where business fluctuated, and like many entrepreneurs, I experienced moments where I questioned whether I should give up or pursue something more stable. However, I remained committed to my vision and focused on improving my systems, strengthening my client experience, and continuing to grow my skills.
By around my third to fifth year as a licensed stylist, things began to stabilize. My clientele became more consistent, and I was able to fully support myself through my work. Even now, I recognize that entrepreneurship in the beauty industry requires resilience, adaptability, and constant growth because business naturally has ups and downs. Through it all, I stayed dedicated to my craft and my clients.
Looking back after nine years in the industry, I can honestly say that the challenges shaped my work ethic, strengthened my faith, and confirmed that choosing this career was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I specialize in healthy hair care, custom color, silk presses, and natural hair styling. I am especially known for my custom color and silk press combinations, which allow my clients to achieve beautiful, vibrant results while maintaining the integrity and health of their hair. My work is rooted in creating styles that are not only visually stunning but also sustainable for long-term hair growth and overall hair wellness.
What I am most proud of is my continued commitment to perfecting my craft and bringing a unique, personalized approach to every client who sits in my chair. For me, hairstyling goes far beyond appearance — it’s about transformation. I take pride in helping women feel renewed, confident, and empowered. I also focus heavily on education, ensuring my clients understand how to properly care for their hair and maintain healthy results long after they leave the salon.
What truly sets me apart is the customized experience I provide. I don’t just focus on the final style — I focus on the individual. I take time to understand each client’s lifestyle, needs, and hair goals so I can create a personalized regimen that supports long-term growth and health. My clients often tell me they feel seen, valued, and deeply cared for during their visits. I believe the combination of luxury experience, education, and truly tailored hair care is what makes my approach different from many others in the industry.
We’d love to hear about how you think about risk taking?
I believe risk is an inevitable part of growth, especially as an entrepreneur in the beauty industry. While I wouldn’t necessarily describe myself as someone who takes reckless risks, I do believe in taking intentional, faith-driven steps when I feel led toward an opportunity that aligns with my purpose and long-term vision.
One of the biggest risks I took was choosing to pursue hairstyling full time immediately after graduating from cosmetology school without maintaining a second job. Building a clientele from the ground up came with a lot of uncertainty — there were slow seasons, financial challenges, and moments where I questioned whether I had made the right decision. However, I remained committed to investing my time into learning, marketing myself, and creating systems that would allow my business to grow sustainably.
Another significant risk was enrolling in cosmetology school in the first place. At the time, I had been pursuing nursing, and making the decision to change directions required stepping into the unknown. I trusted my instincts and my faith, and that leap ultimately led me to the career I have today.
My perspective on risk is that it should be thoughtful and purpose-driven. I believe in preparing as much as possible, staying consistent, and trusting the process even when outcomes aren’t guaranteed. Every risk I’ve taken has pushed me to grow not only as a stylist but also as a business owner and as a person. Looking back, those decisions shaped the resilience, discipline, and confidence that have allowed me to sustain a successful career in the beauty industry for nearly nine years.
