Check Out Steve Baird’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Steve Baird.

Hi Steve, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I felt the call of God on my life for ministry around the age of ten. I began to prepare myself for that by attending Bible College and Graduate School. I have been in ministry for over 30 years. I have been a Youth Pastor, Senior Pastor, Bible College Administrator, Bible teacher and author. I am currently the Senior Pastor at Old Union Church in Lawson, MO. My wife and I have been there for three and a half years.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
There are always challenges when dealing with people, but ministry is people. God has taught me much about how to deal with people in crises and as obstacles. One of the challenges I face currently is being a Pastor of a small country church. It is rewarding to see the individuals who are faithful but difficult to reach and keep new people.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
My strength, as has been confirmed to me by others, is teaching. I love to teach God’s Word and have devoted my life to the study of the Scriptures. I especially love to dig into the Word of God for myself and see how it can apply to those in my congregation. I am set apart from other churches but being faithful to teaching and preaching God’s Word faithfully week in and week out. This has created a close, caring, community of believers we call Old Union Church.

What do you like and dislike about the city?
I love the fact that Lawson is a real community. I can go anywhere in town, see and be greeted by friends and acquaintances. There is a real sense of belonging. The most frustrating thing about Lawson is the lack of some shopping opportunities, i.e. grocery store.
