Today we’d like to introduce you to Sopha Koury.
Hi Sopha, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I grew up in Kansas City in a big, loud, loving Italian family—four girls and two parents who made sure we knew our worth. My mom raised us to be strong women who show up for people. My dad made sure we always felt beautiful. I learned customer service early at Garozzo’s: greet people like family, fix problems fast, and never let anyone leave without feeling uncared for.
As a teen I worked at European Wax Center and fell in love with the calm of the Aesthetic World. Compared to the restaurant rush, I preferred the spa environment—the ritual, the trust, the little details that make someone exhale.
After earning my BSN from St. Luke’s College of Health Sciences (after undergrad at the University of Arkansas), I started in medical aesthetics in 2015 right our of college with a local med spa and OBGYN. From day one my focus was training and patient care—learn everything, practice deliberately, and always lead with safety. I pursued advanced education with mentors I admire all across the country—because my patients deserve a clinician who’s still a student.
My husband, Joseph—Lebanese and the best partner—works in real estate and marketing. We married six years ago. When private equity acquired the med spa I was currently working at, he happened to be building medical spa suites to lease. My plan was to stay put for a while and eventually open something of my own. But the timing lined up—we took the leap and created SOKO inside the space he was developing. It felt meant to be.
About five months after opening, we expanded beyond injectables—adding skin health services including facials, skin services, lasers, and microneedling. Our facials aren’t typical in KC; they often include a gentle laser pass for glow, but the space still carries that relaxing energy. Patients get results and a moment of calm.
SOKO is personal—my name is literally in it. We also chose “SOKO” because soko (そこ) in Japanese means “there” or “that place.” We want to be the place you trust for aesthetics and wellness. We’re not a Japanese company, but we’re inspired by Japanese design—simplicity, natural materials, and attention to detail—which shows up in our space, our treatment approach, and our clear, transparent pricing.
Today I’m the Founder and Lead Injector at SOKO Aesthetics. My work centers on facial balancing—neuromodulators, dermal fillers, biostimulators, and PRF—prioritizing natural, full-face harmony over one-off tweaks. We also support whole-person wellness with a medical weight-management program and personalized vitamin/peptide injections. Our team is trained on the Clear + Brilliant® resurfacing laser, Excel V™ (for browns, reds, and vein reduction), IPL photofacials, laser hair removal, microneedling, but my true passion is artistry with needles: subtle changes, thoughtful sequencing, and long-term plans that respect anatomy and budget. I’m proud to be recognized among Kansas City’s top injectors and referred by so many patients, but what matters most is how patients feel walking out—confident, balanced, and still themselves. Joseph handles finance, operations, and marketing so I can stay where I belong: with patients. Outside the clinic, I’m with our three kids and our rescue pup, Bella—cooking family recipes, traveling when we can, and curating the small touches that make SOKO feel like home.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Mostly smooth! Remodeling was more expensive then we thought for a quality remodel. We outgrew our space as soon as we opened so we are expanding into the space next door, creating two more treatment rooms. Balancing work with three kids 5 and under is always a challenge! It seems that technology is constantly changing and we are having to adapt quickly to the changes.
So, before we go, how can our readers or others connect or collaborate with you? How can they support you?
Book online at sokomedspa.com, come by the space for branded SOKO Medical Grade Skin Care, and follow along on social media @soko_aesthetics – @injectionsbysophia.
Pricing:
- We aren’t known for discounts, but we do have transparent/competitive pricing
- For most injections, we charge per area because we feel patients will pay for the expertise and not the product. We also want future injector incentives to be aligned with the goals of the patient, so we don’t want to subconsciously incentivize them by charging the patient by the amount of product used.
