Hi Ryan , it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Danyael Mordechai
Born Ryan Mason in Kansas City, Missouri, Danyael Mordechai was raised in the Squire Park neighborhood, where his love for music began almost as soon as he could remember. The first time he heard rap on the radio, something clicked. He became obsessed with the music, memorizing every lyric to the latest hits. His older brother would invite friends over just to watch young Danyael perform every word with passion and precision.
Music became more than entertainment—it became his language. He spent his childhood learning piano, saxophone, and cello, building a musical foundation that would shape his artistry for years to come. At home, his mother’s beautiful singing voice filled the house with warmth and joy, teaching him that music could comfort, inspire, and heal.
At just 10 years old, tragedy changed his life forever when his oldest brother passed away. The first song he ever wrote was born from that grief. In that moment, songwriting became more than a hobby—it became a way to process pain, preserve memories, and find purpose.
As a teenager, Danyael embraced the backpack rapper aesthetic, drawing inspiration from the conscious lyricism and preppy, pop-influenced hip-hop of the early 2000s. By the time he graduated high school, he had discovered his own identity as an artist. His sound evolved into something raw, earthy, and unmistakably authentic—a fusion of spiritual wisdom, political commentary, and rebellious truth delivered over hard-hitting trap beats.
Today, Danyael Mordechai creates music that speaks to the soul while reflecting the realities of the streets. Grounded in the authentic Kansas City tradition, his lyrics offer life lessons, challenge the status quo, and encourage the next generation to think critically, stand confidently, and remain true to themselves. Every verse is a reflection of his journey—from a kid captivated by rap music to an artist determined to leave behind something real.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Life has been always been shaky I just make it look easy. I had initial success with my first album, but my producers had a falling out in went to court, which ended with my music been taken down. It took 5 years but I finally was able to retrieve the right to my music and release it under my own management. Now I can release music anytime I want.

I am a Rap Artist, Producer and Writer, with over 70 writing credits to date.
Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
Never stop creating, don’t let other people’s opinions shape your art, and if you don’t believe in your work, nobody else will.
